I thought I'd like to point out that Ticheli (one of my favorite composers) has a new piece out called Nitro. you can hear it on the Manhattan Beach Music website.
I'm not sure how long it's really been out, but it's new since I last checked their website... which wasn't insanely long ago but still pretty long ago.

As for the movie stuff, Hans Zimmer's stuff from Lion King is pretty moving.

I happen to be a Bizet fan...escpecially the spanish flair of "Carmen" and some of the other pieces he wrote during that era. I sang "Ouvre ton Coure" last year. It's got amazing rythym and its really fun.

Have you ever heard the song "October" for band. I can't think of the composer right now but man is it beautifal. It has a wonderful oboe and euphonium slos throughout the piece.

Holst is amazing!!! we played St. Paul's Suite last year for orch. and my brother played it a few years ago in wind ensemble. also The Planets is cool too. i like mozart (especially 40th symphony) a lot. as far as contemps, gotta be John Williams, Klaus Bedelt (pirates of the caribbean curse of the black pearl) and Howard Shore (lord of the rings)!!!

Well...Sousa DID try his hand at writing operettas, which might have had a little bit of dancing in them...
