You know, now that I think about it, Aaron Copland is just one of my favorites. I have so many. Frank Ticheli, Eric Whitacre, Sam Hazo, David Holsinger, Claude T. Smith, Robert W. Smith, Samuel Barber, Richard Saucedo; I could be here all day.

Wow...I have so many favorites. Mozart, Bach, Beethoven, Hadyn, Stravinsky, Frank Ticheli, Eric Whitacre, Eric Ewasen, Ed Huckeby, David Holsinger, James Barnes, John Barnes Chance, and Alfred Reed. There are many more composers who I love...but these are the select few who I could listen to their work for hours upon hours.

My favorite classical composer would have to be Bach. My favorite modern composers include some of the movie score giants out there like John Williams (Star Wars, Harry Potter) and Hans Zimmer (Madagascar, Pirates of the Carribean). Another composer that I like is Nobou Umatsu, who did the music for pretty much all of the Final Fantasy games.

Oh, I forgot Holst, who is awesome. While The Planets is definatly my favorite piece by him, it really shadows his others.

Beethoven, Grainger, Vaughn Williams, Ticheli, Gershwin, Copland, and (as of pretty recently) Boerma are all definite favorites of mine. Boerma is also my favorite conductor. and tootflute and I were going to start "the Copland Cult" and make t-shirts and everything... but it never happened. such a shame. EDIT: how on earth did I forget Holst!

I don't know my composers too well. It's interesting, as I read this I keep thinking, Oh! *composer*! What do I know by them? Or, I've played something by that person, haven't I?
I like doing things by Bonia Shur at synoguoge (only place I've seen the name) in general, Jewish music is really cool. And Klesmer music is shweet, whoever writes it. And... I don't know.

I love Jewish music ^^ harmonic minors are awesome. Anyone ever played Rikudim? We did that at JanFest ^-^
I am personally in love with Bach, because his oboe stuff is amazing and touching and...wow. I love him. Though I can't stand Pomp & Circumstance for more than a minute and a half, I LOVE Nimrod from Enigma Variations by Elgar. And Cavalleria Rusticana by Masgani is amazing too. The ONE Romantic piece for oboe-Drei Romanzen by Schumann- is so awesome too. The first movement is gorgeous. I'm using it for my Brevard audition.
As far as modern stuff goes, Steven Reineke would be my lover...if circumstances would allow. Fate of the Gods, Pilatus, Where Eagles Soar...I love it.
Overall, Bach owns the world. End of story.

I like Robert W. Smith, Alfred Reed, Ticheli, Johnie Vinson (Auburn University), Reineke, Stephen Melelio, and Holst. I'll add to this list as I remember them. I save two of my favorite composers for last, because I have had the privilage to actually meet them. (Besides Johnie Vinson) Richard Sausado (Concert Music) Met at University of Alabama Honor Band 2006. Played: With Each Sunset and Whirlwinds under his direction. Samuel Hazo- Met at Auburn University Honor Band 2007. Played Fantasy on a Japanese Folk Song under his direction. And for those who like Sam Hazo, I learned a few things. He wrote his first piece, Olympiada, after hearing the 1996 Olympics theme and didn't like it. After the band played his piece after the concert, one of his idols asked where he taught composition. After he said he didn't teach composition, she asked who he studied with. After he said that he didn't study from anyone, she told him he needed to keep writing. Well, he went home and wrote his next piece in 2 1/2 hours that night. He showed it to the same person, and she said it was too boring and repetitive. 3 years later, the same person needed a piece to premiere, and Sam Hazo came forward. She played it and loved it. The piece was Their Blossoms Down. Also his father is the Pennsylvania State Poet.
