I have heard rumours of a piece dubbed "Be Thou My Vision" Anyone heard of it? [/size][/quote] I know a song titled 'Be Thou My Vision'- it's an Irish hymn- I love playing it but I can't really think of it as a field piece- but I suppose it could work. But it really is a beautiful piece (it sounds great on tin whistle, on the pipes to if you can stand them) It has a similar sound to "Come thou Fount" here's a youtube of a guy playing both on tin whistle (font is first, vision is second) www.youtube.com/watch?v=i-zzo7eYFBI

And now, the official-unofficial show list for the 2008 University of Illinois Marching Illini, as written by one of the music section leaders... Barenaked ladies: Falling, $1000000 Lynard Skynard (formerly Country): Freebird, Sweet Home Alabama Festival: Festive Overture, Saints Hallelujah Funk: ? Journey: Don't stop believing + more. Um, yeah, this year is going to rock.

Anyone's directors told you about the 2008 show yet? Our opener should be done by the end of this month. The show is called [glow=red,2,300]Nightmare![/glow]with Carmina Burano (spelling?), Nightmare before Christmas, and Night on Bald Mountain as the closer. We are a rather foward thinking band... as you can see in my signature 2009 is already in the works... I actually came up with the idea. Anyone else got show news? woah thats scary.... cuz i kinda make up shows for fun with my friends and thats a show that i made up... glad to see someone else likes it too! only i had nightmare as my closer. (listen to part 3 its amazing) thats really weird...

uhhh. that's one of the most popular pieces for concert literature ever. it's an old hymn. It's in three (like Carmina Burana.) Good luck marching that one.

For the region of the world our band is in... the mid west. We're doing something really new. Our BD tells us in the world of time the eastern coast is behind on the times... so I guess the western coast has seen stuff like this. Our theme is "Colors" I actually like it and think it will be a good show. We're opening with an original composition, then we start with the color Green- Emerald City then we're going to transition into the color Yellow- Walking on Sunshine. Then it's going to be the original composition again... but bigger and strong then we're going to Red- Sunday Bloody Sunday Next White- Pachelbel's Canon in D... after that of course is Black- Mozart's Dies irae Then there's going to be a White andBlack mix called white and black. After I think he said there was going to be a drum break. Then well be ending the show with Blue- Blue (I love that song)
So our show is going to very unique and very interesting I think. But I like the idea... we always have original ones. ;D

We have a show picked out, we started playing it, and its 99% sure going to be our next year's show. It is........SALUTE TO SANTANA! I love the music. some people thought it was going to be lame, but then started to really like it after playing it a couple of times. The only problem is the drill. Our band director got 2 out of the 5 songs seperately so I'm not sure how the drill is going to work out.

Well at first our show was called Heartbeats but our BD didn't like the CKGness in the 3rd song so it changed and now is exhilaration. Oh yah I forget which song but the tempo for over half is 180. that will be fun *sarcasm*

Well next years show is called On Edge. Its like the total opposite of last years show. Last years show was called the pursuit of happiness and it was all happy cheery yaay. This year, its gonna be [glow=red,2,300]DARK[/glow] and just like loud and in your face. I am sooo freaking excited considering its gonna be my senior year and its also a state year. i got connections so my friend even got to see some of the drill and told me a little bit about it. I know top trumpets, that including myself, are gonna be placed center field in the opener at one point cause we have a high C and its just gonna be so cool. i also hear like were gonna have some awsome coreiography. So im excited. Thats about all i know for now. Iv already started memorizing the opener and the ballad.
