Heh... my director has every show concept for the next 10 years or so planned out. Of course, our types of shows are quite different than all of yours, being a quite different kind of band (if you're confused, read some of my other posts and know that I march a corps-style summer circuit). In any case, my show this summer is entitled Collision. Our music comes from David Gillingham's "Galactic Empires" and "New Century Dawn." It's all arranged by one of our staff specifically for us, so there aren't parts that we can't play and he knows what we do like to play. For example, he knows I love to do mello rips, so he put one in for me. It's pretty nice. The show is very visual-based with a lot of modern dance involved (yes, our hornline and drumline dance too!) and there will be a lot of connection between people/sections throughout the show. I believe the music is on itunes, but I'm not sure. Anyway, it's a pretty sweet show.

We might do Earth, Wind, and Fire, or Styx.

We might do Earth, Wind, and Fire, or Styx. Our band did styx in 2005. It was a good show.

There's a comic in the archives where Mr. Sharpenflatte considers doing styx... If you do wind up with a styx show it might be funny to post it in the bandhall!

our bds refuse to tell us until tryouts weekend in may, but apparently the ballad is Shenandoah. i think the drum major tryout kids know what the music is, just not the show. we'll see. we still have two more winterguard competitions and the end-of-the-year band concert.

This year our show is called "Beatles - A Cultural Revolution" It includes Magical Mystery Tour, Elanor Rigby, Carry That Weight, While My Guitar Gently Weeps, and (of course) Hey Jude. There are also little snippets of other songs, Yellow Submarine being one of them. We don't know what our show'll be like next year, but it's sure to be awesome with us going to compete in Worlds in Holland in the summer ;D

We're going to have a bit of Brahm's (sp?) Lullaby thrown in between sections of our show.

we usually don't find out until very end of school or later, but this year, my BD yelled "whoever wants to hear next years show, into my office now!!" so 20 people crammed into his tiny office. He's 90% sold on "The Music of Danny Elfman" including themes from spiderman, beetlejuice and nightmare before christmas. The other option would be a beatles show (which would be sweet in my opinion) but he doesn't like the arrangement. excitement is building already!

A couple schools near me did the "songs of Danny Elfman" two years ago. A coworker did a nightmare theme and she loved playing it... until she had to figure out how to change into a band uniform at work but I digress. We did Beatles 5-6 years ago and everyone loved it! They sang the chorus to "Yellow Submarine" and we all discovered that the reason you join band is not because you have a secret talent of singing.

Our '08-'09 show is Swan Lake. I have yet to actually hear any of the music, but all the current drum majors (I think) and the BDs all agreed on it, so meh. Until I see/hear the music, I'm trusting Liz's taste in music. Fun Fact: the announcement wasn't official. Old Yet Fun BD's son stole'd the music and it circulated for a while. Okay, so maybe he didn't, but his son leaked it out for sure. And yes, this was the head band director's son.

Welllllll... Wew have the entire show written now. But they have not handed it out. We get to teach the little babies how to march next week! I'm so excited! The closer has been shortened from the version we had to conduct for auditions and the balance was messed up. :-P. I liked the original much much much better!
