The guard also has, aside from the snakes emello3 mentioned, pillows. In the very first parts of our opener, Aquarius, they sit on pillows and do this weird butterfly dance thing. It's kind of strange.

Nothing too wierd has happened during a show this year (knock on wood) but during practice our DM cut us off and right when we were supposed to come in a butterfly flew in front of her and she followed it for about five seconds, then started conducting again. Now we all go "look, a butterfly" when she starts not paying attention

Last year had to have the absolute stupidest movement (other then the dance) We were all spaced out on the far reaches of the field (my friend and I, who are this side of 4'11" are on the 15) and well have to, in 20 or so counts, get all the way to the 50. I was practically leaping the entire time to barely miss it. It probably looked stupid too.
The "pinball machine" in Pinball Wizard this year was really hokey. Really, really hokey. It was just... well let me put it this way the intro was "Follow the bouncing ball as the band plays Pinball Wizard!"

Well, we have backdrops that kinda look like poptarts... and a bouncing visual. That was kinda awkward at times. Hehe. Umm....? And why is that?

1. we play jaws and someone screams for 8 counts and we are supose to randomly thrash around. 2. one of the guard members drops their flag in my spot every game and i have to march over it. 3. i drumline does hav music the make it up the entire show that is about all the weridness except our people.....

Oh, this year we begin in the most awkward positions. When pictures get posted, I'll see if I can find one. Our legs are literally by our necks. It hurts.
The band also has some "dance" stuff. They have to *gasp* lift their arms up and down and tilt their heads back.

ummmm near the end of our field show the band is in 2 lines and so at a 3/4 part the front line bobs down for a measure then the back line bobs down for a measure and continues till it turns to 4/4... its kinda strange but aparently looks cool.

Oh, the amazing funny moments of band. -at band camp, our guard started doing this really awesome dance (part of the show) and it was the first time they'd ever done it, so when our DM saw them, he just started dancing on the podium like there was no tomorrow and we were like 'what the?'... - one of the guard girls missed a toss and hit herself in the head with a rifle, knocking herself out. our BDs called our school officer and were like 'guard girl down, blow to head with rifle!' So the officer came running in, completely confused 'cos he thought someone was shooting at us or something. - bkgrnd: we just got new uniforms last year, so our white plumes are like practically sacred. we were at the WL marching contest and it started to rain while we were performing. As soon as we got off of the field, all of us woodwinds were squealing about saving our horns from the rain, and our BDs came running over and are like "SAVE THE PLUMES!". So they had us pull off our plumes and stuff them under our jackets so they wouldn't get wet. Priority, I see...

in our show this year, we have a part where one side of the field plays one college fight song(UGA) and everyone on the other side makes fun of them, then it switches and they make fun of us while we play the rival college's fight song(Georgia Tech). It gets pretty mixed up, and none of the people in the audience know what we're doing. Inbetween the songs the drum majors are always yelling at each other and saying that their college is better that the other's. Its actually really funny to watch if you know whats going on.

our show is all about chinese dragons. therefore, during the drum break, the dragon in going to come out of his lair and "fight" the band. also, the band gets to do some tai-chi stuff.

We had a very interesting and stupid (on the football teams part) moment durring our show at an away game. We were half-way through our show when, we don't know why, the home football team ran out onto the field. they nearly ran over several clarinets and alto-saxes when they stopped and apparently said "Oh, the band is still on the field" they then slowley went off the field and waited for us to finish. despite that, we kept playing unfased. Afterwards when the altos and clarinets were retelling the story tot he rest of the band we all decided that non band football players really are stupid.

for one half time not so long ago, we were going to play 'Louie, Louie' out on the field, but it got rained out. So during halftime, when the band was already gone, two of my friends went out onto the field and tried to do the halftime show...without instruments. They were basically running around the field and singing and dancing. Or at least, they tried to sing the songs we were playing. One of them was running around and shouting "LOUIE LOUIE!!" And then she slipped and fell in the mud. lol.

We had a visual at the end of our first movement last year: The entire band formed a music note and the head of the note knelt down to expose an alto saxophone soloist who did a jazz solo. Now, you have to understand that this saxophonist is absolutely nuts in the best way possible and has the most awesome- weird personality of anyone in the band. He also has a HUGE repertoire. He would play all sorts of random things as the solo during rehearsal. One day we had a freak cold snap, and so for the last run through of the show he played "Frosty the Snowman." Everyone started laughing and needless to say we had to do it again.
