Also lots of PMEA festivals have Eb soprano clarinet players. Ah, how could I forget? We have an Eb soprano clarinet player in Wind Ensemble who sometimes doubles for our oboist, who is just a beginner. It's a really cute little clarinet!

Until you have someone who can't play it or doesn't have a great ear..and they're up in the Altissimo register. lol. That thing is a buger to keep in tune!!! But it is cute!!!

We had a guy that played bari sax for marchign band...we have an Eb clainet. It is really cute and really little. Our BD played fugelhorn for a christmas concert
Oh, then there was the craphorn...which I don't think was ever finished.....the craphorn was our 2 youngest directors creation. It was the valves of a trumput welded on to everything but the slide of a trombone.

Oooh.. my 8th grade year (so....8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 1.. 6 YEARS AGO!?! *cries*) I saw a marching bass clarinet.. I'd never seen one since, so I think it'd be rare...anyone agree?
I don't know.. small town band with a proper bd.. we don't see that often.

We have a freshman clarinet player that plays Eb soprano clarinet sometimes. We also have two string bass players.
Here, we march bass clarinets and bari saxes, so they aren't really rare (French horns too, but here, French horns are rare. We only have two!).
On the other hand, the college (Central Washington University) has a bass saxophone, a contrabass clarinet, a couple of different flutes - alto, bass, I think they just got a contrabass flute - you know, the fun stuff. I love being practically next door to a U with a good music program.

We have no bass clarinet players who play that as their primary marching instrument, but we had 8 regular clarinet players switch to bass clarinet for a feature in "Bolero." ;D

An intentional marching bass trombone has yet to be seen as well (I mean, yeah I have like, 4 friends that are bass trombonists, but they play tenor in mb). And I've seen pictures of over-the-shoulder marching baritones/tubas.. but all the bands around here just use sousaphones and double the 2nd bone on baritone parts.... but of course.. we come from schools of limited funding, and limited students (we take the musicians we get and use them in every single band).

English horns. Fun things.
My school has marched bass clairinets all 4 years. We had a flake and a pot head do it sophmore and freshmen years (for me) mid sophmore year we got a new person. So we had this chick (who rocked, not just in the musical sense either) and the crack head, the later left.
This year i marched bass for the first half. but the need for trombones was great. Now we have a sophmore playing it. I know that bass (which the crack head destroyed (cries for what was a great horn)) So im always helping her out telling her how to fix it when it stops working.
