I was supposed to end up 4 off the 45 line, and I ended up 4 off the 30 for sooooome weird reason. Haha, that happened to me at one point during my junior year. I had already been in band three years, and I'm even a very good marcher, so I figured I would never make a mistake as stupid as completely being wrong by about 2 yardlines on one move. And this was at USSBA All-States in Allentown. How dare I disgrace J. Birney Crum Stadium like that! Trust me, though, that was not our best show. I fell out of formation after we left the field and cried because I was so disappointed in myself. One of the trombones came over and put his arm around my shoulders to console me - I was so upset. Now that I think about it, I made a really embarrassing mistake at the USSBA Nationals last year, as well. It wasn't noticeable, though (at least I hope not - I didn't buy the DVD). The whole band had to do some foot moves where we moved our feet to the left first. I moved to the right. You know, like I hadn't been practicing that since August, and I decide to screw it up only at Championships. And in typical SaxGirl fashion, I completely overrated the damage that I thought I may have done to score. I was freaking out after the show, screaming, "WHAT IF THEY SAW ME?!?!?!" By the way, hchswiregrasshorn, why did your DM have to wear a ponytail? And I'm curious, since we are doing a Moulin Rouge show this year (we also have One Day I'll Fly Away as our ballad with a trumpet solo), did your BD get the music from msconcepts.com or Hal Leonard? That would be really neat if we did the same show. (We are doing the Moulin Rouge Opener [Nature Boy and Diamonds Are a Girl's Best Friend], One Day I'll Fly Away, Spectacular, Spectacular [which was not part of the online show], and Rhythm of the Night/Nature Boy Reprise. )

Oh man, I have a few from today... Ok, so they're not all my fault *lies*, because I hadn't brought my inhaler *I only need it when it's too hot because then I can't breathe well* and I was pretty delusional and about to pass out pretty much all day... The heat even took out a Trumpet SL for a while, which is definitely saying something for him. But anyway Today we were playing through pep tunes and at the end we kept messing up, so we played through it a few times and got it, and on the last time I was almost a measure behind and played on the rest really loud... Needless to say, I had to do pushups XD
The other one was when practice was almost over and our BD called us into a parade rest... well, we laid our stands on the ground because they tell us to afterwards, and one just so happened to be right by my foot... So I shot out my left foot RIGHT INTO THE CORNER of the stand, but I couldn't do anything about it. I guess my friend said people could hear the *BANG* of the stand and me going 'ow'... I didn't realize that.

It was a small ball of hair. (That's the best description I have) And yes, we did/do have the same show, except for Spectacular, Spectacular. It's the most challenging/funnest mellophone parts I've played in my six year marching band career, especially just before and during the Nature Boy Reprise filled with 16th note runs. I only wish we were good enough to have more drill sets during Diamonds. I think we only had five.

Our band got lost in a parade once. ;DOnce upon a time, back in high school. It was at night, during a small town band competition. The parade route was on the main street, and a parked police car was to mark where we turn. We'll call that car CAR1Another police car, CAR2, was reporting to a 911 call, and drove right down the parade path. Our marching block broke ranks and let it through. Apparently, CAR1 also left and followed CAR2, so they brought in CAR3 to mark the corner. CAR3, however, got the street corner wrong and parked on the wrong corner. We ended up turning 4 blocks early, and thus completely missing the judging booth. As soon as we turned, CAR3 left, presumably going to the correct corner. We kept marching for a good half-mile, and realized that there were no more spectators, nor street light. Yup, a marching band of 80, plus staff/directors, in a very dark street in a small town in the middle of nowhere, lost. Our director took out a map and flashlight and led us to the football field just in time for awards, which was entirely pointless because we just got DQ'd. We were in good spirits and enjoyed a great laugh. Years later, we'd still hear "hey! that's the band that got lost!" at competitions Also, when CAR2 came down the parade path, we had no clue what to do; I mean, we were trained to not step out of attention unless instructed to do so, so we kept marching and CAR2 kept honking and our director wasn't aware of CAR2 because he was ahead and we were playing loudly. It took a good minute before the BD realized what was going on and made us scatter. Whoops ;D

Aha, so the mello parts are that good. I was out on the field at band camp jabbering on and on about how I wish I would have switched to mellophone this year just because the mellophone parts are so awesome. The end of the Nature Boy reprise sounds so James Bond-ish, and every time they run through it, I think of the Cavaliers' 2004 show, 007. Did you guys take the opener up to tempo, though? I think it's supposed to be around 200 bpm or something. Regardless, we marched it fast enough one day at band camp to cause at least five different clarinet players to trip over themselves, and since they fell in the mud, they all kind of stayed there on the ground laughing hysterically. Now that's embarrassing.

Omg I have another embarrassing moment XD. It was the 4th or so day of Jr. Band Camp and I brought my cell phone with me to practice. I left it across the room in my backpack and thought I had turned it off. But halfway through the practice, it went off because my friend Sam had sent me a txt message...and just gueeesss what my txt ringtone was? Crazy B**ch by Buckcherry!!! I jumped out of my seat and ran to turn it off before the f-word came on. Everyone busted out in full laughter, and my BD just slapped his face and shook his head. I was absolutely mortified!

And I know what you're talking about about the 007 part. It was everyone's favorite part.

I was trying SO hard not to laugh when you kicked the stand. You were THAT loud. When we all got pushups during practice for so many people talking, I bent down to put my flute down, then stood back up to find a place to do my pushups. I hit my head on the stand and ended up saying 'OW!!!' and the band director just looked at me, trying not to laugh. I did my pushups though.

Last night was our 1st football game. We did our halftime show for the pregame show, and there is one part where I am marching in a left slide and then immediately have to march huge steps backwards. Well, I go to transition between sliding and backwards marching, and my foot slips on the grass for some reason. I stumble for a few steps, and I thought I would be able to stop myself from falling, but no, I fell on my butt. Luckily nobody ran over me. I got up quickly and continued marching, but I was so embarrassed. It was the first time I've ever fallen during a marching band performance...

Well, this one time, at band camp... We were doing ranktionals (sectionals with your rank), and practicing our opening maneuvers. We had to condense ranks so you were shoulder to shoulder with the people next to you, then after a bit, you had to snap back to your place, firstly by snapping your hips for show. We had a contest, and the rank I was in won, so we got to go to lunch first, but we also had to demonstrate. For the entire band. We were just about to start doing this snapping part when all of the sudden Mr. B shouts out that everyone should look at my hips to observe the snapping motion. So I marched out with my back to everyone, fully aware that every single person was looking at my butt. And I was a rookie freshman that year. Bad times...

Ah, man. I have one. While we were doing another run-through, I have a 6 to the 5 forwards and then backwards, but my foot kinda got caught and I struggled a bit. But it was no use, I fell RIGHT backwards, and did almost like a back-flip thing from the weight of the baritone on top... It was funny, but embarrassing. I got up right away and had to like run to my next chart, and my SL was just like 'what the??!'

Ummm... well I woke up wearing my girlfriend's pants this weekend. Ok, the full story is this: Band lock in was Friday and Saturday and I stayed up all night (pretty much) with short naps in random points. During one of my power naps in the hall, my girlfriend managed to remove my pants (I had shorts on underneath) and then apparently proceeded to swap pants with me (while I'm sleeping still). and then she fell asleep on me. So I woke up wearing her pants (with people sniggering the "omg, you're in her pants" jokes) with her sleeping on me. I was very confused. Then when I refused to give her pants back and tried to run off with them she attacked me and pulled them off.
Yup yup, not my most shinning moment.

^ Yeah, that is slightly awkward..
So, it was my first year of marching band, and I'm not the most social person. Large groups of people don't exactly scare me, but they make me incredibly uncomfortable. I also have a lot of trouble making friends or even talking to people, especially upperclassmen.
It was the end of band camp dance. We stay on a college campus, so the bds reserved the party room for us and we had a dance floor, food, and lots of loud music (another no-no of mine). I was terrified of the upperclassmen, separated from my little circle of friends, and getting a headache. So I left. In plain sight of everyone, I walked out of the building, made my way back to the dorms, got in my pajamas, and read for a bit.
Inevitably, I had to go to the bathroom, so I crept down the hall to the restrooms. When I left them, I saw Mr. B standing outside my unknown-to-him empty dorm. I was shocked. This was the girls' floor, after all. Not to mention my bd came to track me down and I was wearing my pajamas. He saw me at the end of the hall and started to walk me back to the dance. I'm always self-conscious, but now I was more so than ever, and the whole time Mr. B was talking to me, I'm responding in monosyllables. He kept asking me why I left and didn't seem to think that I was being honest when I said that I had a headache. "Don't you like this music?" "Not really." "Is that why you left?" "No." "Don't you have friends?" "I have friends!" "Are you sure about that?" "I think so..."
I still turn red when I think about that.

Alright, well. this was my first band camp and it was fun. But there were some embarrassing things. the one that was by far the most embarrassing was when my girlfriend and her dad saw me wearing a bra. Now this sounds very odd, so for the full story go look at my post at the top of page 3 in the thread "Tales from Band camp...." in this board. Another embarrassing moment happened not to me, but to our bass 5 player. We were running to reset our show for a run through and he was wearing his 28" bass 5 and couldn't see the ground in front of him. Our band has a thing called a Long Ranger that is basically a big megaphone that blasts out our metronome so everybody can hear it. Well, he didn't see the Long Ranger on the ground in front of him and he tripped and fell with his Bass 5 landing right on top of him. It was funny after we found out he was okay.

Didnt happen IN band, but before rehearsal.
So, my boyfriend drives me to the R&P lot where we have band rehearsal every night. Well, there was a penny on the seat of his car and it was real hot out, and lets just say I sat on it HARD and burnt my butt pretty bad. I mean, I'm talking it hurt when I marched it was that bad. After basics I couldnt take it anymore (funny how my willpower has changed since I marched a month with a broken foot) and went to a member of my section who was an EMT and he got me some burn cream. Anyways, I had hoped that he wouldnt ask what had happened, but ... he did and so he started laughing, and then tells the entire section what I did.
The rest of the day my section called me "Penny" or "Ol Abe Lincoln". I almost had to do a rookie mission, which was just to moon the section so they could see if it really did imprint on my butt, but my boyfriend showed up and QUICKLY denied any way of me doing that, haha. (By the way, it didnt imprint but I do have a scar from it)
