I just thought of this. Our band cycles through music and so we have an unofficial collection of songs that you are not aloud to practics...EVER on my list are: *Sawmill creek-the song you had to play to get into middle school advanced band *Carry on my Wayward Son-we played this every year for midd school night.I know all the lyrics and a couple alternate ones too *Malagunia just evil. part of midd school night *Final Countdown-flutes call it "whole note h-e double hockey sticks". part of midd school night *Aztec fire-if you escaped playing Carry On it was because you played this instead *the Tempest-also loathed by flutes

My List of Evil Band Songs (that I can think of off the top of my head)
VARIATIONS ON A KOREAN FOLK SONG Who wouldn't love to play sixteenth notes at an altissimo range???
CHROMATIC ATTACK-IT A song devoted entirely to playing from concert Bb to concert F chromatically. Fifth grade piece.
PACHINKO Aka, the flipping fast eighth-notes-in-cut-time song for flutes and clarinets.
CRUISIN' FOR A BLUESIN' Jazz band song that is every alto sax's worst nightmare.
CHARLIE JAMS AGAIN The infernal middle school jazz song that Mr. J plays every year.
LINUS AND LUCY Over-played jazz band song that sounds stupid unless you're Winton Marcellus.

Aw, Carry On Wayward Son is great! It's one of our stand tunes! And I love Malaguena, too. It was part of last year's field show.

Oh, man, I lovee Land of 1000 Dances.
And another that I lvoe, but we can't play is the Imperial March. We make fools out of ourselves because our low brass isn't big enough.
And Crazy Train...love playing it, but we suck at it.

Hey, I happen to like Variations!!
My list of awful band songs - American Elegy, just because. As Winds Dance Stand up and get Crunk (worst pep band song ever) Achievement Chorale and March (6th grade stupid band, gah) Fire Dance (awfulness to the max)
there's so many others I can't remember.

Chameleon- We actually do this as a stand tune... Kind of And we did sawmill creek back in Jr. High too. Yuch! I can see why it's outlawed. The region tryout music around here is insane.

LOL my band gets to play Fucik's Entry of the Gladiators instead of Pomp and Circumstance. I have this image of the parents hearing the announcer "To celebrate the entry of our Bayfield gladiators to the world, the band is going to play Julius Fucik's Entry of the Gladiators" and then we play and get to the clown part.
