Well, turns out that in at least some cases it is not a good plan to audition for multiple corps. This year was my first year going out for DCI. I decided I'd audition for SCV, Blue Stars, and Scouts. Paid the fees for all, bought necessary plane tickets, prepared materials, etc. Turns out the Blue Stars and Scouts auditions were on the same day. 100 bucks wasted, went to Blue Stars. Got a contract (woohoo!). Next camp, SCV and Blue Stars conflict. Called Blue Stars to tell them I'm missing camp to audition for SCV, got contract rescinded. (hella boo....) Now there's nothing for it but to hope I get into SCV and go with that.
So: As I learned the hard way, do your research far ahead of time, go to audition camps in the year(s) before you intend to march so that you can get your experiences and make your decision before auditions. Audition for your top choice. Then, if and ONLY if you don't get in, go to another corps and see if they've got spots open you can audition for.
Good luck to all still auditioning!

You told a corps you were missing their camp for another corps audition? Ouch. Well, at least you learned something. Yeah....if you get a contract for a finalist...KEEP YER MOUTH SHUT and do the gig....if you're young you'll have time to make other corps....but I highly doubt Blue Stars will want you next year no matter how good you are....that bridge is burned.

For the sake of conclusion, I just wanted to mention that I did in fact make SCV (as of earlier today), so I'm all set.

Congratulations....it'll be an awesome experience....but you damn near blew your chance to march somewhere...corps directors don't like when people do multiple auditions.

Now there's nothing for it but to hope I get into SCV and go with that. Good luck to all still auditioning! I havent visited this site for a while but I had to comment on this when I saw it. In advance I am going to say that I'm sorry if I offend you in what i'm going to say and everything I say is my own opinion. But what you have just displayed is an amazing example of arrogance of which I have never experienced. By auditioning for another Corps after you had been contracted by the Blue Stars you were basically telling them that they were not good enough for you. The kids at Blue Stars work just as hard, if not harder in some cases, as you do. It may not have been your intent to send such a message when you did what you did but it comes off as egotistical and arrogant. Another thing that also caught my eye was the lack of planing you had when you going into the auditions. A quick check to the calendar would have told you that the Scouts and Stars audition were on the same weekend. The fact that you did't even do that seems to point to an overall lack of maturity on your part, which is ok. That's why Drum Corps is here. I just hope that you do not take your attitude back to your marching band come the fall season. It is people like you that give Drum Corps a bad name and cause many band directors to tell their students that they are not allowed to march Corps. Once again, I'm sorry for this little rant, I just HAD to get this off my chest. And to trumellotonium, I'm sorry if you are offended by this, I wish you the best of luck during spring training and on tour.
