Does anyone have contra players that have HUGE egos? In my band it is getting completely out of hand with one of them being on leadership team. Trumpets are usually just getting into trouble, sort of backwards stereotype.

I say trombone, and that's my primary! The ones I have had to deal with are obnoxious, arrogant, fools with terrible tone. Or just plain lazy, and who don't like taking advice from others. I love playing baritone, but euphonium even more, and now I have to play euphonium because I got severely injured (back, right shoulder) and am strictly prohibited from conducting or playing trombone until January-ish.

Sorry about the arm, that stinks. Euphonium is awesome, though it is what I play.....the pain is worth it

Band injury? If so, that sounds pretty epic. The brass collectively in my band has a fairly big ego. We all know we work harder than the woodwinds.

But the percussion trumps the brass because they work five million times as hard as we do....unfortunately.
I wish I played something heavier than baritone. Then my ego could be even bigger than it already is.

Not the same in my band. Pit complains about standing for 2 hours and the drumline has thei drums for a combined 30 mins. Then they act all cool and important and cadence into the br, not stopping for ANYONE

^ What bothers me about your drumline is that you have a traditional America theme show and your center snare uses MATCH GRIP? this makes no sense to me. And yes, your contras are very good.
And yes, band injury.

I'm curious as to how you injured yourself in band that badly. Our pit is the laziest during band camp, but once they crack down and get to work when the instructor comes, they are amazing.

A good friend of mine got the trombone solo in the marching show and will probably be first chair trombone in high school jazz band this year. He's in 8th grade. His ego is quite large. Trombones win!

On the subject of contras.....
Can anyone tell me how much one weighs? (quantitatively, in pounds). Would a 5'2" 125 pound kid be able to (realistically) successfully march with one?
