I've been playing for almost 6 years and I've never really liked my tone. I don't really know how to work on getting a better tone. I mean, people have told me to do long tones and such but I don't know what to do. can anyone help? like can anyone tell me some exercises to do or direct me to videos or something that helps?

Have you tried any buzzing exercises? I always find that doing some form of buzzing (or free buzzing without the mouthpiece), using either lip slur patterns or chromatic/Remington-type patterns helps me focus my tone and get a darker sound. It allows you to really listen to the tone/pitch you're creating, resulting in a better quality tone. I'm not a trumpet player, but we do that kind of exercise in the brass in the Marching Illini all the time, helps a ton.

Tone could depend on yuor moupiece and how small/large it is. Your tone could also be helped by TBKing up there or other things, like what sound you make when you play. Like playing with an EEEHHH sound instead of an ooooh sound. My BD says try to play like you could swallow a golf ball. And buzzing exercises are probably the key here too. And practicing. Maybe you you need to tighten or loosen you lips. You may go sharp or flat, but thats what the tuning slide is for.
