We had our holiday parade today, so much fun! All the kids were really cute There was this one dude standing on the side holding a random sign and walked along our band shouting "DONT LOOK SO RIGID! LOOSEN UP A BIT!" there was also a point where the horses in front of us pooed in the middle of the street and some people on the side were laughing when we walked through it. Thankfully it was far away from me.

At a Christmas parade yesterday, as we were marching by, this one lady was talking to her young child saying, "And there's the flutes, now the clarinets, here's the saxophones..." It was awesome lol.
EDIT: Woo! 1000 posts!

so in our holiday parade yesterday and the night before, we had at least 3 people per night say YEAAA SAXOPHONES to the parade block. last night one of the floats got a flat tire so we were in the middle of the parade and we were all like we should play the school song or our other parade tunes. then we decide to start singing. someone in the crowd was like "Louder!! We can't hear you!" so we sang louder. Once we finished that song we started doing the hookey pookey. We got the crowd doing it to. I guess we turned from a band to a choir.

^that's awesome!! i bet my BD would yell at us if we started doing that...she'd just have us cycle through our limited amount of songs and the crowd would get really bored.

at the minnesota state fair parade last summer we had people who would say, "look at the flag girls!!"
we'd be kind of screwed if there was a halt in the parade because our band only has the parade tune, school song, and then the two drum line cadences memorized. we only do the one parade every year, and our show music is boring for parade crowds.

So when we did blocks in high school, I would usually be on the end. I still remember a little girl pointing at me and saying this:
"Mommy why does that girl walk so funny?"
Yeah. Some of us can't help it.

"Hey are you guys JMU?"
By far the stupidest thing i've ever heard. #1. our band is over 400 people strong. NO ONE else in the area has a band that large #2. PURPLE!!! if that doesn't give it away then... #3. our uniforms say JMU on them. Who else could we be?

Hahahaha, the EXACT same thing happened to us at the Paint the Town Orange parade at the beginning of the season. We were waiting around for the parade to start, and somebody on the street sincerely asked "Hey, what school are you guys from?" He apparently missed the fact that all 263 of us were wearing bright orange shirts emblazoned with "VIRGINIA CAVALIERS" on them (and this was in Charlottesville, mind you)

We only ever march in one parade a year- the FFA rodeo parade- but it was an experience last year. Freezing cold (it was january), and we weren't really marching because it was all 6 area HS bands together, each with some 200+ members. And of course as we went by we had all sorts of random people yelling "GO CLARINETS!!!" and such.
