okay, I am not in colorguard, but one day me and my trombone friend decided to go see what the colorguard was doing. (its fun to see the new people,) And I am like I WANNA TWIRL ONE! Lol. So there was an extra one laying around, and a percussionist was fooling around with. I got to use it, & eeeek. I love it. So I asked my friend to bring her flag over the day she came over, and I just wanted to play with it all day. She taught me some tosses, twirls, and such. I just really like it. Its really tempting to join next year, but our band has little woodwinds, and we just got new uniforms, & I like wearing the pins..a sense of pride, lol, and I should keep my flute side alive. But I got a year to think about it. I thought I'd share this with you guys. Lol.

Yeah, learning equipment is fairly addicting. To avoid anyone being offended, I believe most guards refer to it as "spinning", and not "twirling" (which is what one does with a baton).
Anyway, if you want to keep marching the flute but also have a chance to play with flags, etc, you could try to find a winterguard in your area. They're a lot of fun and allow you to do both during their respective seasons.
Good luck!

yeah, twirling is what you do with a baton. spinning is what you do with flags, rifles, and sabres.

yeah, if you like spinning so much, you should definitely look into independent winterguards in your area.

wgi.org has a search option to look up winterguards nationwide. also, the guard instructor at you school may know of some in the area. heck, if your school has one, join it!
