Seriously, I joined band to get out of a class that I hated. = P No kidding. I had wanted to be in band for a really long time, and our old band director wanted me too as well, but my parents were strictly "I will NOT raise a band kid". So, in 8th grade I said "Forget you, I'm doing it no matter what you say." And I did. Now I play. . . almost anything, though I started on Trumpet. I am marching sousaphone this year. I think it will be my main college instrument too. = P Plus, I had friends in band, they influenced me to join. Haha. And I had to lie to get in. But yes. I have never lied to get something this great before. And I only did marching band because I was tired of being a summer baked couch potato.

My best friend's older brother played tuba, and seeing him in band, I decided I wanted to play it, and I chose trumpet. Of course, he switched to drums and I decided I wanted to do drums, so that's what I started on when I moved to Atlanta. Since then, it's been a series of logical progressions. I was in the Beginning band in fifth grade, so I joined Advanced band in sixth, and when I moved schools, I joined sixth grade band in Colorado. I liked it in sixth, so I joined again in seventh. My BD wanted us to play Tocatta for Band, which required a euphonium solo, and I didn't particularly like my first chair at the time, so I switched. I like baritone, so I stayed on with it into eighth grade. In eighth grade, I saw the high school bands perform at our competition, and I played at a basketball game, so I decided that I would do it in high school, and then I was gone, and I'm never coming back.

I started trombone at random, but now I play with my high school band director (the one from my Sophmore and Junior year) in mind. I use him for motivation to get through college in Music Ed. and I'll end up using his ideas and enthusiasm on my future high school band.

I joined band because my cousin was in band. My first instrument was the trumpet, although people said I should play flute. That was not going to happen.
Only two months into band, I could not play an F or G. A recommendation to play baritone was given to me. So, I switched and am glad I did.

I had always wanted to play an instrument. I began on piano, because that's what I (thought) I heard each week at church. (It was really an orgeon, but in a child's brain, who's parents know nothing about music, it was a piano.) I got a key board for christmas the year before my school let you start band. I also knew someone on trumpet, both the actual pereson, and the keyboard made it sound cool and fun, so that's what I did. That was in fourth grade.
The next year I moved to a school that started band in fifth grade. My second year in a first year band. Then I moved the next year, but this school started band in sixth grade. My second year in a first year band. Seventh grade rolls along, and I'm finally in a second year band, but the following year we didn't have enough eighth graders for a full band so I was placed back in the second year band. I was so bored. I wanted to learn to play French Horn, but the only one we had didn't have a mouthpiece and in looked like a smashed aluminum can. I remembered earlier in the year when my BD was trying to get someone to play tuba. Back then, at that moment, I had known I was going to end up playing it. So, when my BD gave me the oppurtunity to switch I took it. I've been on tuba since.
Last year was my first year of marching band (school starts marching sophomores here). I didn't want to deal with the shoulder pain from a sousa, so I tried baritone, which I love. But this year I bucked up and am now on sousa.

How many of yall had to play recorder in 5th grade? Well i did and i had this amazing music teacher in elementary school, without her i wouldnt be in band today. I was in 5th grade choir, all-county choir, recorder ensemble, and i did recorder karate(you passed off a song for my music teach and got a 'belt' string in the color of karate order to tie around your recorder). When the time came to sign up for 6th grade classes i couldnt decide between choir or band. I liked to sing but i really liked playing recorder. Then one my mom said "well theres choir at church so you can sign up for band at school and do both" and i thought that was a good idea so thats what i did. I wanted to play clarinet because my friend played it and i thought it was gonna be close to the recorder but i had no idea how much air it took to play a clarinet compared to the recorder. lol. but i managed i stayed in band because i fell in love with it. After beginner band i skipped intermediate and went straight into advanced band at the middle school. I was REALLY excited about that! I found these comics in 7th grade and loved them haha. I honestly think my life would be completly different without band. I later found out that about one-fourth of my family on both sides played clarinet and i have a cousin that is a music major. My mom even played clarinet but i didnt find out this till last year. My sister is now in beginner band playing saxophone, that traitor ;P Now im a freshman in a high school band. First game was last night and i freaking love marching band!!!! I love how there are no cliques and mostly everybody gets along. Were like on big family! Pretty sure this is my longest post ever..

I wanted to play flute since kindergarten days. I wanted to play in jazz just because. I never really wanted to march, but now I feel like the only one who truly loves/appreciates basics at my school.

Youngblood brass band. I heard Nat Macintosh play and never had a doubt in my mind that tuba was what I wanted to play.
