You're going to a football game or to a parade - you get on the bus, and what do you bring with you?
We're only allowed to bring our instrument and flip folders and then whatever we can fit into our uniform pockets. We're not even allowed to bring our intrument cases. Food is the biggest no-no. We're never ever allowed to eat with our uniforms near us.

Well, our uniforms and instruments (unless it's like a flute or clarinet or something) goes on the trailer. They don't trust us with the uniforms, nor do we have the room, as we take the minimum amount of buses needed. No music unless it's something you haven't memorized because it'll get wrecked somehow.
But yeah, basically everything legal and abides by the school rules is okay. We usually have a little picnic in the back so we can mess around at the parade instead of eating once we get there. The past directors have been pretty lax on everything as long as the bus is in the same shape as when we got it.

Hmm... see, we wear our uniforms constantly. I can't name a single time where we'd bring our garment bags on a bus with us. Or packed away, for that matter.

We have a coat rack for our uniforms (should tell you how small we are) and anything that doesn't fit in a school locker goes on the trailer(my rule) along with it. Most people keep music in exterior pockets of their cases.

^ ditto. Except, the bus drivers' rule is usually no drinks without a lid.
This one school we went to for competition had some pretty funny actual rules for their uniforms. "No personal contact while in uniform IE Hugging, holding hands, kissing. You cannot eat while in uniform. You cannot sit. If you MUST, make sure the area is clean. No Running. No dropkicking the hat boxes, you must hold your hat with three fingers in your left hand..." it goes on and on. I wish I had gotten a pic of it.

Nothing that could be disrespectful in uniform. Other rules, besides the ones you mentioned, are like no drinking unless normal water, no makeup, no jewelry, and then a few things specific to our uniforms. I actually have the rules on my computer as I had to enforce them when our last director didn't care. For us, it's because our school district (and school) is really poor. Our uniforms are only holding up because we take care of them, and even with that everything is ripping and getting stained. I can't see how some groups don't give their uniforms utmost respect.

you band director always tried to tell us we didnt need anything other than our instruments and music and maybe a little money. But, she didn't really stop us from bringing anything. as long as we don't care about the risk of it getting stolen. and all drinks have to have screw on lids

we take uniforms and hat boxes along with all instruments and equipment except flutes, clarinets, and colorguard sabres (cuz it's cold enough in minnesota that if you don't take it on the bus it'll be freezing when you perform). also, we take all personal belongings like backpacks, purses, etc. most people have food too. this is all for my hs. i dunno what my college is like yet.

We pretty rarely do short duration bus trips (about the only time is when we're playing at the house of the President of the University before a game), but in that case, we bring everything- instruments, uniforms already on, etc. This is because about 10 minutes after the performance, we're due in the stadium tunnels to get ready for pre-game.
Any trip longer than that, we're not in uniform (though we generally keep our garment bags with us), instruments usually go in storage compartments underneath the bus, and you can pretty much take anything you want (except alcohol) on with you.

For the single short (ie under an hour) bus ride BUGWB has, it's for the homecoming parade so we can only come in uniform and our instrument (sans case) some of us sneak cameras as well. For the real bus rides (to the alamodome, UT, A&M, and sometimes Tech and Oklamhoma) we can take as much as we want. KKPsi and TBS feeds us and the BUGWBer (newspaper type thing) is distributed. Body bags and instrument cases are down below the bus.
In high school we took EVERYTHING, hat boxes, body bags, instrument cases, and food. The orthodontist has an office across the street from the student parking lot and he can tell when football season is by how many brackets break on band members.

Taking things to football games... it really depends on where we go. If its close, i'll just take my mp3 player. If its far away, like a competition, i'll take my DS, my games, shoes... pretty much everything lol.
My gloves and music usually go in my garment bag, along with my gauntlets. So i can't really forget anything lol.All the uniforms and instruments go on the truck.

In our band, all instruments larger than clarinets go on the equipment bus. As long as it's not a weapon or controlled substance, you're pretty much allowed to bring whatever. Food is technically not allowed, but none of the chaperones actually check what we have with us.
For a normal game, I'll have the following items with me: Uniform in garment bag, speedsters (usually on my feet), iPod, phone, and sometimes a small book or snack in my hatbox. For a competition, people sometimes bring DVD players with a headphone splitter so multiple people can listen to it at one time. Somebody once brought a large set of iPod speakers, but that got shot down by the chaperones as soon as he turned it on. Sometimes we'll get a really nasty bus driver who won't let us use our phones, but this past year a girl on my bus got her mom to drive us and she would let us do whatever.

On any band trip we can usually bring anything we want. Only flutes, clarinets, and piccs can bring their instruments on. As long as whatever we're bringing isn't too big, then it's fine. I've seen people bring radios, ipods, cellphones, purses, etc. I usually bring a blanket and a pillow for the ride home, not for sleep, but for comfort.
