Our band says S.P.A.M at the end of our Fight Song. That stands for Spirt Pride Attitude & Motivation. We also have a thing that gets us hyped up and it's
Director/D.M: Attitude Check!! Band: WE FEEL GOOD, OH WE FEEL SO GOOD! HOOJAH!!
The trumpets, Clarinets, and Saxes each have a handshake, which we do before every performance. Personally, it calms my nerves.
What does your band do?

When we are marching into to football games the drumline will do a cadence where we shout EA at in a certain spot
then when we are on the track before halftime we say the lords prayer and do READY READY RA and EA YOU KNOW

well, we don't have a tap or count off for our cadence. We, as a drumline, yell, "Listen up whiteys here's the groove, TJ drumline bust a move!" Now what's oddly funny about that is that we are all so incredible white, and our cadence (until the snares master the new awesome part) sucks...really bad. But a relatively new tradition is to have the snares join together, put our sticks up in a 3 Musketeers fashion and prep ourselves and get our selves psyched, yet focused. Then we usually yell something, often "Let's kick @$$!" it's all quite entertaining.

Oh my, where do I start... High School No real handshake, but before a game we'd circle up, put our stuffed monkeys in the center (long story), and pray a blessing over them that I will not repeat here. Someone would then yell, "We must protcet WHAT?" we'd respond "WE MUST PROTECT THIS HOUSE!" and we'd run off to the block. College Two "handshakes", the inappropriate "trombone salute", and the more popular "1-5" (point at someone, spread your hand, repeat), which can be given to any trombone, or anyone worthy of a "1-5", such as Urlacher. Pregame, after warmups, a senior will go into the center of the circle, we then descend upon him/her and make sure our hand is somewhere on the body (hair, ears, etc.) The senior then makes an inspirational speech, then we chant "Bones on 3, 1,2,3, BONES!!!!!!!" There's also north side water and south side nap, but that takes WAY too long to explain...

Before going on the field, the mellophones have a handshake and then I tell them "May the horse be with you," to which they reply "May the horse be with you everyday."
After we warm-up on the field, our band director tells a joke and we all yell the punchline.
And when we compete in the Liberty Bowl, in order to get on the field you have to march through "the tunnel." We stop at the entrance and on 3 we "RA!!!!" It's amazing.

Stomach-in Chest-out Shoulders-back Chin-up Eyes-with pride Eyes-with pride EYES-WITH PRIDE Woah! that sounds exactly the same as our breakdown after our practices/games/competitions/whatever else. Ours is as follows: DM:How are your feet? Together! Stomach? In! Chest? Out! Shoulders? Back! Elbows? Frozen! Chin? Up! How's that marble? Securely held, sir (this is a reference to proper posture at attention) How are your eyes? With pride! Eyes? With Pride! EYES?!?! WITH PRIDE!!! And that all takes place within about 10-15 seconds.

That's very similar to how we get into Memorial Stadium. We're marching along in parade block, and eventually we reach the south tunnel. You have to understand that along with the tunnel there is a slightly steep hill that leads into the stadium. All the other sections just march down. But when the bones hit the hill, we slow down, start leaning back, and sway our instruments from side to side while chanting, "Wait for it, WAIT FOR IT!" Finally, an sl or whoever jumps up and we all run screaming down the hill. Good times...

Before my section (the Baritubas) take the field for postgame/halftime, we shout "FROM THE HEART!" It's in referenece to our section being the heart of the band, and the section the band looks to most as an example, as tradition says.

I don't know about other sections, but in my band, the flutes have a tradition where we kiss our flutes and then cross them with the person in front of us until we get to the front of the line. And before competitons, our drum major hands out mentos for good luck. No idea why.

We have a pre-parade run down: DM: Feet! Band: Together! Stomach-in Chest-out Shoulders-back Chin-up Eyes-with pride Eyes-with pride EYES-WITH PRIDE This seems pretty common then. In olden days (my freshman year, when I did marching band. we had a differant director then) it was just the band director would yell 'band!' and we'd all respond 'WITH PRIDE!' and that'd happen over and over. They've expanded it to that and the feild commanders do it now, apparently. We also used to have this thing where... I don't remember how it would get started but we all were hissing, or sizzling or whatever (you know the sound I'm talking about right?) and it was supposed to be energy... that made no sense. I can't explain it. I don't know if they still do it or not these days. Someone from my school, do we? I know that people have been complaining about losing the traditions. I hope that's still there. It was cool.

We do that!! It's called a 'pressure cooker' and we start out soft... and crescendo to extremly loud just before we're called to attention.

We have a pre-parade run down: DM: Feet! Band: Together! Stomach-in Chest-out Shoulders-back Chin-up Eyes-with pride Eyes-with pride EYES-WITH PRIDE Don't suck on 3! One, two, three DON'T SUCK! Knights! What is your profession? OOH! OOH! OOH! We do a variation like that too. Not very often, but we'll do it during practice, just because there's not really any time to do it at a football game with the whole band or anything... But it's, the "band ten hut" followed by Feet - Together Knees- Lax (for relaxed) Hips- Centered Shoulders- Square Chin- In Head- Up then a horns up commandment. Also at the end of each practice, we all gather around the center for any last announcements. Then our dismissal is, Director: Band, Ten, Hut Band: East! Director: Band dismissed. Band: East Side Pride! Our school being Plano East. We do that at the end of each practice and end of each game. Some times after half time after we've gotten off the field and our director has talked to us as a whole about the performance before we get in the stands.

Don't suck on 3! One, two, three DON'T SUCK! That's hilarious. If I make drum major at the end of the year, I'd totally say that.
