what exotic and seemingly unnescessary exercises do you do in marching band training. We go to block each rehearsal and doo pushups, planks, bicycles, and all those. The most painfull thing we do we call arm thingys. We hold our arms out strait and with the DM, go ''down-2-3-4-5-6-7-8, forward 2-3-4-5-6-7-8, back 2-3-4-5-6-7-8, up 2-3-4-5-6-7-8, hold 2-3-4-5-6-7-8' and repeat. Try it if you don't beleive it hurts and see how many you can do. Does anyone else do this and what else do you do?
--LOL this is like my 10th thread this week i'm so bored lol.

We do the arm things, but that's as physically strenous as it gets for us.
It makes me so mad. If I ran it my way we'd being doing laps, pushups, crunches, aand everything you named off.

Haha my band is so out of shape. Most of us can barely run a mile under 10 minutes. It's really pathetic...but we don't do that many exercies, mostly arm circles, pushups, crunches, stretches, and that's it.

We do some leg stretches. Then we do pushups (20 on average), then we get up and stretch our arms (doesn't make sense to do that after pushups, but whatever), we sometimes do arm circles (which are painful), then we do crunches (20-30 average), and then we run for a little while. We have to run in-step and at the tempo that the DM is clicking for us, while breathing in for 4 and out for 4. It's really hard to do the breathing while running. After all that is done, we do a playing warm-up (long tones aren't fun after you've just ran), and then we get on to regular practice.

The most painful thing we do are jumping jacks. We do them in sets of 10, and we have to stay with the beat and end together, and if we don't we do it until we get it. Not fun. We had to do about 70 once before we finally got it right. And then after we finish that we do a lap around the field. Our band is pretty out of shape, so you can imagine the fun we have.

our guard does a cardio warm-up thing (running in place, stretching, etc.), slow stretching, bicycles, leg lifts, and then dancey stuff to work on pointing our feet and working on turn-out. then we do across-the-floors to work on toe-lead marching, jazz runs, chassés, sautés, etc. then onto flag and weapon basics. then normal rehearsals. we don't run laps ever.
the band does the cardio, slow stretch, and bicyles. then they move into basics block to work on marching, then horn arcs to work on breathing and warm-up. they run laps at sleep-away band camp, but not normal rehearsals.
drumline goes right into basics block while doing their warm-ups. they might stretch before, but they're always on another part of campus from the guard.
i think our band's pretty in shape. they do their warm-ups at most rehearsals, and a lot of the kids are in sports too. i had a friend who went from school to tennis to band and then home. then she quit tennis because it was too much and just did band.
