I will program this song into my head until I'm singing it in my sleep. Uhg. I'm really starting to hate Air and Bouree. I have it on my iPod. I'm using it for the local solo and ensemble feastival.
Besides practicing your piece, what are some things you do to prepare? I work directly with my band director on a normal basis, since he is also a tuba player, and I buy it off iTunes and listen to it over and over.
I refuse to listen to any other song until Wednesday.

My friend and I are doing a sax duet, so we listen to each other and offer critique, which really helps. He recorded us, although it's not the best quatliy, it really points out where we need to work (other than the obvious places). I'll probably start listening to only the 1st and 2nd mvmt of Tableaux de Provence while driving everywhere this week...

OMG! I got a 1 at feastival. I don't know if this is a universal scoring system, so here that means that you got an A in terms of grading. I thought I did horribly. I either placed second or third. You have to be first or second to go to state. I won't find out what I got until later this week place wise. I'm so nervous. My band director called my house and I must have screamed right into his ear. I've been dancing around all day. I'm SO excited. Ok, I'm done.

Oh, odd, with the scales.
Here you just play a solo and you're done.

Do I go to the only district that doesn't do scales?

My district doesn't do scales, but when you go to states, there's scales and sightreading. I got a 1 this year! I played Andante and March.

Even at state for me (wisconsin) we only play our solo or whatever piece and we're done. It used to be different, because it used to be a competition for a scholarship to the university. If you played really well (and probably had to do scales and/or sightreading) you would be asked to take a theory test and the people who did really well on that were offered a scholarship to... the summer camp where you could win a scholarship to the school? Something like that... but we don't do that anymore.
