Okay. I was just wondering if you felt the same way. In our school, our band is a joke. People like to make fun of us and it is all about football. I hate it when they make fun of us. They say it is the easiest thing in the world. I used to get so angry, to the point where I would start getting into verbal fights to try and defend us, because I knew someone had to and I was the only one who would. But, I have just reciently realized, who cares what they think. We know we can do a lot more things than them and band will give us so many things we can carry on and use in the rest of our lives. There is team work, dedication, confidence, communication, integrity, pride. These are all good traits that we learn here, in band. One thing I always think of and I always say is eyes with pride. It doesnt matter what you do, or how you dress, whatever you want to say can be spoken through your eyes. Your eyes can show many things to someone else. Just be true to yourself and dont let others keep you from dong what you love to do. I am pretty sure if you are on this website tan you love this as musch as I do. And I have gotten way off topis then what I started out with...
I am here to listen so whatever you want to say...go for it. We need to be talking about new things.
Sorry..

I understand you. At my school, no one gets marching band unless you're actually in it. It's all about our basketball team, more then the football team. Our football team is terrible and our basketball team was group 4 state champs. My school is a little more accepting, though. I do get into verbal fights sometimes about, but there's not much you can do. It really doesn't matter what people think. Just ignore them, and do what YOU love.

I'm here for you, man. Here for you. Our band is, at the moment, a joke. We got run into the ground and we're just now starting to pick back up with the help of a new director. Unfortunately, we won't be any good till I'm gone. Seems unfair, but at least I get to say that I was in the group that started it all. And I agree with what you're saying. Good points.

ugh i totally know how that is, even in our middle skool we're being called band fags and all that crap. it's all about football and cheerleaders. luckily, we can't get made fun of for sucking because we're very good, but the CHEERLEADERS like to say, "omg, like, that would be so easy! all u have to do is blow in2 a piece of metal!" and that's, when i start getting into verbal fights.

Woah woah woah!!!! I don't understand how anyone can be made fun of for being in band. That makes no sense. Me? I make fun of cheerleaders and football players. Come on, you've got to be a total LOSER to play football and an even bigger loser to be the one bouncing around in a skirt cheering for them. Do they have any idea how stupid they look? Who needs the general public's respect when you've got your own? I hope reading this post makes you guys feel a little better.....it was fun to write...

People at my school fear the band. And not just because we're insane. They admire and respect us for what we do. They acknowledge that we work ourselves into the dust, and the few people who make fun of us, we just tell them to come to one of our marching band practices and see how "easy" it is. We're like, "Yeah. We're in band. What of it?" And we walk away while they try to comprehend what we just said. My point is, don't let it get to you, be proud of what you do, and never let them take you alive.

it helps that at my high school 1/5 the school about was in the marching band, and all the sports teams save for soccer were pretty bad. during halftimes my senior year the student section and most the parents would actually stay and watch us instead of all going on the mass food run.

See the good in it-you don't want those people in the band or anywhere close with their attitudes. Act as geeky as possible and leave them out!

God, I love all of you!! I t will be good to know that you were the one who started it all and good for clarinetrox2012! That is really cool! Things are starting to get better. I have a friends thats a cheerleader and she sticks up for us and I play on varsity softball and they have learned that if they say anything bad about the band, and mean it, they are going to put up with me!! lol! But, who cares? We do what we love to do and we are good at it. It doesnt matter about them, it only matters that we do what we love. Go Band!!!!

Yeah, in a school of about 2500, 280 of us were in band. It was generally assumed that if you ever talked bad about the band, then we would all come after you. And we would. It helped that we won a lot and got a lot of positive PR for the school.

lol! Thats great! In a school of about 2,000....52 was in the marching band!! Yep, thats it! But, I dont know what I would do without these 52 people we have. I love them so much! Softball season has started back up again and the jokes begin. But, the teachers really like the band so we have them on our side. I would not trade this for the world.

Dude... welcome to my school. Our band has struggled ever since iFrostyflute's school opened and took all the rich kids, while the football team has won three state champs and been to 1 other. My advice? Get together some of your friends and work to make the band the best it can be by practicing, teaching struggling students, etc. When you do well, people will start to notice you.

Same as Shifty. 1500 in the school, 275 members. Most people want to be in the band to go on the trips...Then again I think it also helps that our football team and cheerleaders suck.
Ignore them. It's the best way to keep out of trouble. You don't have to prove anything to those jerks. Let your show and music do the talking. =]

Yea. The select 10 of us that care enough do all we can to try and make this band the best it can possibly be. We try to help everyone but it only effects the people who want to get better. Just the way it is and it is sad that the people who care so much is stuck here. I am getting through. I am not letting the people drag me down.
