Especially Vesuvius. WE MARCHED IT!!!!!!!!!! xD Oh my God, how'd you manage THAT? In my junior year show, we had literally TWO measures of 7/8 in a 3/4 song, and half the band somehow got out of step. Vesuvius has 8/8, 9/8, 11/8, 1/8, 3/4, 7/8, and 4/4... HOW!?!?

We had a clever arranger. They rewrote parts of Vesuvius so that we were marching in 5/4 and not 9/8. Also, our visual director is just AMAZING. If i recall correctly, he's the lead mellophone in the Cavaliers Drum Corp. here's our show for those who want to watch it: EDIT: Sadly, our best performance (IMO) was removed due to copyright infringement (but we filmed the video ourselves?...).

^plus Sakura's band is pretty "hardcorps" to start out with, as evidenced by her "has played" list...

I had a huge list of things that came to the top of my head, but I found that most of them were on that list, which is awesome that you have played all of those pieces. However I think I found a few and forgive me if these have been stated by someone earlier.
Fantasy on a Japanese Folk Song- Sam Hazo Heaven's Light- Reineke With Each Sunset (Comes the Promise of a New Day) Saucedo Elsa's Procession to the Cathedral-Wagner

I'm surprised no one's mentioned Allerseelen by Richard Strauss yet! I would post a video, but I can't find any band arrangements on youtube....only vocal =( Pines of the Appian Wayhttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GeitM2va5RY&feature=related and Sigfried's Funeral March are pretty spectacular for a nice dramatic finish.

^plus Sakura's band is pretty "hardcorps" to start out with, as evidenced by her "has played" list... heck yes, we are and..wow. i cannot believe how many people suggested songs for our band. except that i think we actually are not going to be playing a slow song...it looks like we will be keeping Hold This Boy And Listen, and switching out Gum Suckers. The songs we are looking at now are Paris Sketches by Martin Ellerby (probably only movement 4) March from Symphonic Metamorphosis by Paul Hindemith Dance of the Jesters by Tchaikovsky

Oooh symphonic metamorphosis is ganz fun. Personally as far as marches are concerned, I like in storm and sunshine.

Conversations with the Night: I think my BD would take this one if it wasn't so long! Depending on speeds, we already have about 10 minutes of our performance time taken up, leaving us with another 10 (we're also playing Khan by Julie Giroux and Gum-Suckers March by Percy Grainger), and with another 8 minutes gone, there's not much wiggle room to play with the tempo. We played a song similar to this in our band but it was shorter called "I am" and unfortunately I don't remember the composer or have a recording, but it was beautiful. Also "Elsa's Procession to the Cathedral" is very moving.

This is not all slow. This is my second favorite sng in the world. Flight Of Valor. The tempo changes with different meters. It contains the church hym "It Is Well With My Soul". Flight Of Valor is composd by James Swearingen and it was written to honor and remember the heroes who lost their lives in a Pennsylvania field on September 11, 2001. It is a grade 3.5 and if you just listen to it, you will understand why I like it so much. My other choice for you is An American Elegy by Frank Ticheli. Tgis song was composed in memory of those who lost their lives at Columbine High School on April 20, 1999, and to honor the survivors.

There's a piece we play every year in our Halloween concert...Come Sweet Death, by Bach. Its morbid, yes, but its a beautiful piece. Word! Most of what I have put on my list has already been mentioned, but I'll just mention them again, because they're amazing. -No Shadow of Turning by Gillingham. I would definitely consider this to be in the top 3 of my all-time favorite band pieces. It has some tricky parts, but is totally worth it. -Pacem (A Hymn for Peace) by Spittal. One of the prettiest pieces I've played. -Dusk by Steven Bryant. It has kind of a Whitacre-like sound to it, but not really. The two are good friends, though. -Irish Tune from County Derry by Grainger. -Ave Verum Corpus by Mozart. -Come, Sweet Death by Bach. Just make sure you play it sloooow. -Match of Hope, by some guy with a cool name. It's also a cool piece. -O Magnum Mysterium, duh. -Three Chorale Preludes by Latham. The first 2 mvmts. are slow, the 3rd is moderately fast. All three are amazing!! -Rhosymedre by Vaughn Williams. But don't play it w/o a bassoon, because otherwise it totally ruins the beginning. -America, The Beautiful by Carmen Dragon. (only if you like G-flat major! ) -An American Elegy by Ticheli. -Elegy for a Young American (crap, can't remember who it's by). -Slumber My Darling (you'll have to Google who it's by, I can't remember). REALLY pretty, but a little on the easy side. -Bogoroditse Devo by Rachmaninoff. ... that's all I can think of, off the top of my head. I actually just recently went to an EMU band concert and the Wind Symphony played something really awesome, but I can't find the program w/ it's name. I'll have to get back with you on that one.
