so i went to the university healthcare center today (cause my foot was swollen) and the VERY FIRST THING THEY ASK ME is "are you pregnant?" Grrr... wth? HAH! Our health clinic at school ALWAYS asked that too. My roommate and I had a running joke anytime we sneezed or commented about not feeling great.... "are you pregnant?" ;D Yeah, same here! Lots of my female friends have stories about that. " Are you pregnant, miss?" "Well, 1) I'm a virgin, and 2) we both know I have mono because that's what I came in here for yesterday!"

In other news, one of the basketball players from U.Miami threw his mouthguard at the tubas today during the game. We were not amused.
(Sadly, the refs didn't see it, although it was caught on tape, and there's talk of sending the footage to the ACC Headquarters to let them know)

You could throw a quarter in my hallway and hit a pregnant girl in the belly. It would ten proceed to bounce off and have a 65% chance of hitting another. Ok, that isn't quite accurate, but it's pretty darn close. It doesn't help that my school is tiny, and it seems like the pregnant girls are popping up everywhere, especially freshmen. Yeah, not so much here. I've *heard* that it exists here but I've never seen a pregnant girl at Baylor. I only know it exists because it was a hot topic for Editorials in the Lariat how we shun pregnancy and they are practically forced to leave college (got to love us bears. sic'em)

^We do our best to keep them in school, especially now that there is so many. What kills me is that people act like it's such a great thing. I always see them walking around with gifts from friends that have baby clothes in them and such, like it's all one big party. I even know of people who TRIED to get pregnant, not to keep their boyfriend or anything, but just because they wanted to be moms, like it's just some game of house.
UGH. [/endrant]

On some level, I think giving baby clothes is healthy, because really, they're not in the best state of their life and they need support. They made a choice, and are handling its consequences every second of every day, and there is no reason to try to add onto what's all ready going on. Much as I think teen pregnancy is unhealthy, once it's happened, shunning those who are only encourages things like abortions, dropping out, and living off welfare for the rest of your life, and the daughter of a teenage mother is likely to get into a lot of the same situations as a teenager and continue the cycle.
As for the wanting to be moms, that is their choice, but I don't think it's a good one.

While I do agree with that to some degree, I still think that we're borderline encouraging it. I'm sorry, but having to hear the mother of a freshmen, fourteen year old girl talk about how happy she was to be a grandma was just too much for me to handle. I can't really say anything about the choice that's made; my mom was pregnant with me at 17, and had me when she was 18, and I must admit, I get pride out of knowing that she went through that, and today is a college graduate with a masters degree and a really freaking good teacher. And I'm not doing to horrible myself, unless you count my Chem I grade. >< So it is a generalization to say that teen pregnancy is always a harmful environment to raise a child in and that it is horrible and blah blah blah. I still think more measures should be taken to prevent it.

^It's definitely a setback on a lot of levels. I think that once those babies grow into screaming two year-olds that those now-sixteen year-olds have to cart around, there will be a lot less acceptance and a lot more of a "don't end up where I am" stigma from the girls who have kids. It seems like a fad (what a terrible word for it) that will pass.
Your mom also had you her junior or senior year, when she was nearly done if not done with high school...the fourteen year-olds are going to lose a lot of their high school life to having kids (because, honestly, unless she marries her baby daddy, no right-thinking sixteen year-old is going to date into a kid).
One of the things about living in a socially conservative (ex-Klan) town is that stuff like that rarely happens. There was one girl who miscarried during her Spanish class (I can't even imagine) and that was it. Much as the fundamentalist presence can be overbearing, it also keeps our town's morals remarkably high. Even the stoners don't come to class high.

Anything to get the Redhawks in trouble would be great. Ohio beat them by 19 points in men's basketball on Thursday anyway, so that's good... PRESS CHARGES! STORM THE FIELD/COURT/WHATEVER!

Sorry im just kinda angsty because my german class is full of a lot of stooooooooooooners who are so high that they can't keep their mouth shut. It's starting to wear on the teacher's nerves. And mine. I would switch to the other class pd. but it's the same period as my band class...
