My band directors do this ALL the time!!!
"Reset! One more time!" Me: That really translates to "19 more times..."

This is good practice for when you get into the working world. I do not know how many times I heard that “This job is 40 hours a week and infrequent casual overtime.” This translates to “You will be paid for 40 hours a week but you will be working at least 105 hours a week.” Worse yet, you do something over and over again because one person messes up and of course that person is not the one that has to suffer through it all.
Dilbert is real.

Of course. Band is a metaphor for life.

Band is life; what are you talking about?

Well yes. But even for those who don't go into musical professions the lessons learned from dealing with the situations and people one finds in band can be applied so well to the "real" world.

Unless you decide to be self-employed.
Actually, I wouldn't know. I'm not employed.

Give her a break! Geez. I'm sure she's not being completely literal with it. Don't give her such a hard time.

I was more making a point about my own intent. Sorry to have been a pain.
From what I can tell, Animal, you're absolutely right. Both parents end up working at least twice as much as they're supposed to, between six-hour phone calls and getting called in on weekends when something explodes.

Sometimes you get a good Manager. The one I work for now understands about Band Parent commitments. She has been trying to get me home on Thursdays (I travel about two weeks a month) so I can make the Friday night game and around the weekends with competitions starting (Mid-South in Gadsden Alabama is this Saturday).
After all, someone has to help the pit set up and set up the Drum Major stand ;-)
So, band is real life. There is times when you do things over and over again and then there are times when all falls in place. It is all about group dynamics.

Both involve hours of hard work. There will be people who don't understand you or your intent. All members of a group have to suffer for the mistake of one. You have to be able to deal with other people well, and you have to really want to be there to do any good. I could go on for hours because my JH director was a lover of life lessons but I'll stop.

yea. my visual director (who were share with another school. i'll have to ask them about this) says "last time" and "one more time" all the time. Tuesday at rehearsal he was like "I'm going to stop saying one more time and start saying again because I lie too much". He did that for the rest of the rehearsal, but on Wednesday it started up again.

If our BD or guard instructor says one more time it means like 20 more times.
