i love cleaning out the band attic. its so sweet to find old stuff =] i got a pair of shorts out of it, and my friend got a blanket, duffel bag, and the same shorts. lol awesome =)
we keep all of our flags though - even if there is only a small amount... our guard has been shrinking lately, so yeah, makes sense to keep them. seriously, we don't even throw away the ripped ones...they get fixed if they can be, or ignored if the rip is minor. yay for a good budget! /sarcasm -.-

yeah, we keep pretty much everything even if we never use it again because my coach likes to look through and get ideas from her predecessors. we also almost never get rid of old floors or props from winter. those either get reused or put down in Under House (the basement underneath the Performing Arts Center (new audit.)). Under House is sweet. That's where they store all the old props and costumes for the Drama Dept. as well as old desks and such from the janitors, our old props and floors, and the band uniforms and school tux jackets for wind ensemble and orchestra.

woooah. the Under House sounds pretty amazing. Wish we had something like that. We store our old floors in the guard room. [[which is only about 7 ft by 7 ft.]] we finally are getting a new floor this year. we've painted over the last 4 shows to save money. the stupid thing is extremely heavy.

We had a guardie take home show equipment to use as practice, and worst of all they LIED about it. I swear i was about ready to kill them.

Luckily, everyone in my band knows if you use guard equipment without their permission, they will get chopped off with sabres during the show. And since most of our guard does sabre, that will most likely happen. The guard is usually okay with us letting us use their equipment, as long as they are there, and they said yes. I love the rifle. And my friend taught me part of the show using the flags. So fun. =]

advice to nonguardies: just avoid touching equipment or going in the guard room unless you have permission. treat their equipment like it's their instruments. you wouldn't want people fooling around with your instrument. same with guard equipment.

Agreed, but some bandies @ my school are too dumb to figure that out

We had a guardie take home show equipment to use as practice, and worst of all they LIED about it. I swear i was about ready to kill them. every member of our guard is issued all the euqipment they use in the show plus practice flags. we usually stick with theshow equipment unless it's raining or the grounds digusting. =]] the way that we keep track of everything is that each person is assigned a number and if they lose that equipment, the have to pay the full individual price for each thing they lost. =]]

Our gaurd equipment is stored in a large locker and is often used as a changing room for the poor gaurd guy.See the gaurd closet (as we call it) is wallpapered with pictures of hot guys usually half naked, this disturbes most of the male band members so they wont go near it and the girls have permission to go in there if they are posting a new picture

We have a room for random miscellaneous equipment, and that's where the flags and rifles go. We sometimes have stupid people who aren't in band or anything, come into the band room and steal the stuff, but they get chewed out, even if the person who sees isn't on color guard. It's sort of funny to watch. Just before Christmas break we had a little orchestra kid come in and touch a flag, the girl who's flag it was took it from their hands, and brandished it at him like she was a power ranger!

We don't have that problem now that our senior (read: oldest and scariest) director, Mr.H, has taken over the guard program(s). Everyone in the band knows and fears him, except for the equipment crew - we simply know better than to screw with their stuff. That and it's better to be on the guard's good side than bad

We give them the option to buy new stuff or use the older ratty flags for practice, but this person decided that they were too good for their own equipment and took 2 custom silks that cost a heck of a lot of money and thought they'd get away w/ it.
