We have four DMs (recent addition- last couple years we've only had three), to some 240-odd band members.
Fortunately we have really, really high conducting platforms.

Ok, for a 240 piece band I can forgive more than three dm's. like I said 1:60

4:300-ish.
It's usually the head in the center on the highest platform, two more on either side of her on lower platforms, and one in the back on a ladder.

Truth be told, our band has shrunk to about 60 or so kids, drumline included, and we've moved up to 2 drum majors instead of one.
Had a power hungry drum major... suffice to say, it didn't end well. Good thing I'm too lazy to rule with an iron fist. More like a stirofoam one.

LOL. Probably not a good trait for a dm but as long as you can overcome it when you must...

During playoffs, when we use all 5 DM's, it's set up like this: Head DM up in central tower on FS 50- conducts DM's and gives marching orders to all with whistle 2nd in line powerwise: Down on side 1 30- tells band when to stop 3rd and 4th in power: 5 yards side 2 wise of the line we have elected to turn on (it changes based on the drill) 5th: wherever she's needed...

What do the other three do when you don't use them as DM's

They march a field spot during regular season, conduct stand tunes for a part of the game (they switch off) and they conduct the show if one of the varsitys can't be there for some reason. *realizes what this means and infects head DM with terrible disease*

We have the Main DM in the front and the ADM conducting from backfield.

We never use a backfield DM for field shows... I guess we don't need one considering that we always face front. (the Slide of Death)

Wwwow. 1st thought: That's a BIG band. Are you 6A??? Second thought: 1 drum major for all of that? I feel sorry for the sousas and the backfield guard girls... who knows where they'll get the beat from.

I believe Cougarbeth has said that they are a 6A band, but my freakish memory may have failed me.
