We do something at the very end of band campcand the very last practice of the season. It is called Madussa. All the seniors go out into the hallway and everyone else has to stand at attention. The seniors will do whatever it takes to get everyone else to break attention. But they are not allowed to touch you. It is a good way to break tentions and have fun the last day. And everyone is always looking forward to it so thats good. It is always interesting to see what the seniors come up with. It is always the last five people at the end...but it is great when the seniors come up to you and you can not move but a lot of old stories come up. When I was little "Fred" used to come over and mow my grass. He would do it every other day. Well "Fred" was a senior last year and I was a freshman. I forgot completely that he used to come over to my house. Well he comes up to me and starts telling me the story and he will do sound effets and arm movements and you cant help but to laugh. I am the only girl and woodwnd left standing. I always get third place. Maybe since he is gone I might win this year. No, I am going to win!!! I like the ideas people have on here.

Medusa is a game from DMA. In fact, many so called "traditions" of various bands are actually just DMA stuff. You'll understand what I'm saying when you get there.

Our ex-DM went to DMA and came back with some really stupid ideas...blindfolding people for their lunch break, when we have to walk on busy roads to get to lunch in our little town. I'm curious what they'll teach our new one, because she is pretty clueless as to what a DM should do.
EDIT: Your Medusa is called a military bearing check in the Civil Air Patrol, and it's usually part of a drill down (we have those, too). I would obliterate my squadron on drill and ceremonies if only it wasn't for that.

Sorry. I like to laugh I guess. Never knew I had to be so serious...lol. I have a lot of good times and just now thinking back on some of the incredible memories I have make me smile.

It's funny because I usually have to force myself to laugh so I don't seem like a robot, but when I'm trying to concentrate, everything is funny.

For our band camp, we let the rookies feel special:
We had a drill down for rookies, then a drill down for the vets. Before anyone got out, our BD came at us with all the rookies armed with water guns. None of the vets had any. ^____^

One day during the warm up circle one of the Drum Majors led stretching and warmups, instead of doing jumping jacks he just started singing the "Hi. My name is Joe and I work in a button factory..." thing and did it while dancing and we had to copy him pushing buttons with our feet, hand, heads, etc. and at the end it looked like a huge circle of people spazzing out. It was really fun and a nice change from sit-ups, push-ups, and jumping jacks (when they say 25 we go up to 25 and back down to 1, and we have to do more when someone keeps going at the end or someone moves or if we are of tempo. It's evil.)

well sadly are band camp is not that fun and im actually my band head drum major. we have a butt load of clinicians who dont tolerate fun lol they say "there's no time" but what i find that helps to lightened the mood is between set changes i always crack a lame joke. normally its so stupid that its funny and everyone laughs but i wouldnt recommend people do that bc it may no work for you. lol i sing to the band too...i cant sing for crap but again it helps to lighten the mood when things are tense
