i was just wondering why band was important to u guys. for me, it's cuz it makes me feel special, like i can do something that a lot of other ppl can't do. and band is like one big family and it's great. it's something that only band ppl can understand, i've been on other teams and stuff, and i've never felt the way i do in band in any of those other things. please, do comment. ;D

Band is important to me because it gives me an opportunity to forget who I am and become part of something better. While I am playing my instrument, that math test doesn't matter, the girl I like doesn't matter, the fact that the guy sitting next to me is the most annoying guy on the planet doesn't matter. I like that escape. I may have a solo or soli, but it's all part of the overall piece, as opposed to in school where I'm on my own (I don't consider band part of school, because it is a much higher priority in my life lol)

It keeps me out of trouble. Gives me something to do so that I don't get involved in things I shouldn't. People call band their anti-drug, and that rings especially true for me. I don't claim to be able to make the smartest choices, and I have a pretty decent idea of where I'd be without it. Dead. Band = exercise = produces endorphins = balances my hormones and mood-swings = much better Baker. It's a good equation. They are my family. What can I say. I don't have to pretend to be something I'm not. and they were the first people to know about my girlfriend besides my parents. And you know what? My friends there have been the most accepting of all of them. Thanks to band, I have 800 parents and 400 brothers and sisters, built up over my four years of band. and they all would do a lot of things for me if I needed them. They are great like that.

It gives me somewhere to belong and helps me sleep at night. If I don't spin for at least ten minutes a day, I can't sleep. And there's a feeling I get playing an instrument, that I can't get doing anything else. I cannot be complete without it.

last year was my first year in band and i didnt love it the way i do now. i have played soccer for over 5 years and i have never really fell in love with it. i dont even want to try out for the high school team even though it has kinda been my dream since i started playing it. it only took 2 years to fall in love with band. band has really changed my life it makes me want to strive to master anything i do and make it good. like my "quote" under my pic or whatever you want to call it that basically says i cant explain it i just love it, does that make any sense at all? because of it i want to be a music major when i get in college.

-clears throught- i am about to get all mushy and gooshy so get your tissue boxes ready. haha, jk. I love band because I've never really been good at anything before. I mean I use to play soccer and basketball but I wasn't good. It was just fun. I love band because I am kinda good and I love it. And I also love that band has so many oppertunities even if you aren't the best player in the world. They are my family and I'm pretty sure I wouldn't like my life right now if I wasn't in band. When people say band is their anti-drug, I seriosuly mean it. My school is a place where, if I wasn't in band, I would probably be into the drugs. I have a feeling I wouldn't be who I am right now. It also gives me a place where I can be me. I don't feel like I have to wear a fake front around band kids. I can be myself and if they don't like me then whatever. But in classes when I don't have any band kids in my class, you would be shocked. I'm quiet and do my own thing. While in band I am loud and outgoing. I love band because it give me a place to be me.

^I agree with you there. Band gives you a group of people who are safe to hang out with and won't pull you down. Even the ones in my band who do drugs (both of them) aren't the kind who will show up to school high or try to give you weed. Not only that, it mixes you up with upperclassmen and gives you strong role models....if not for our first chair trumpet's example, I would probably be failing right now...

Band is really the only thing I have. I can't do sports because of my knees, and my parents probably wouldn't be supportive of sports if I could ("You couldn't do ___ when you're 70"). It gives me something to do and out of trouble. And there are plenty of opportunities for me to do drugs and drink til I can't stand. I made friends through band. I would be a very pathetic person without band. I would probably devote more time to studying and wouldn't miss as much school if I wasn't in band, but at least I can feel like I'm doing something. I think that when I'm older I'll be able to look back at all the things I did in/through band and be able to say, "Yeah those days were amazing." No regrets. At all.
And plus if I wasn't in band, my parents would be paying $7,000 more for college lol.

I agree wit you all Personally i am blessed to have an amazing church family, band family, and my own genetic family.Between them i must have like 30 grandparent and 150 parents.Band has given me a place where i can be me.I have been able to help people by being in band.My parents are always wwilling to give anyone a ride and they always make me take a Penutbutter and Jelly sandwhich to practis in case anyons parents didnt bring them dinner.( we have night practise and some kids just stay at school).I cant tell you how many times i've had someone knok on my door and sleep on our sofa because they could'nt handle being at home that night.
I love the feeling of whatching the freshmen after they do well at our first comp,or seeing the little kids faces at church light up when i mention band.I dont need to be the best, band lets me know i already stand out.

i have developed a love for band. cuuuz: 1. its a family 2. best friends 3. music! i love it, duhh 4. you get corrupted [achem brass], but you have a lot of fun 5. unforgettable moments 6. new things you learn 7. do things other people don't/can't do 8. have inside jokes and stuff 9. band trips! 10. its an excuse for not having a life [for most people, lol] 11. texting/ipods allowed in band calss 12. band camp- something to do over the summer, and can be really awesome and everything 13. band director lets you skip class and listen to his crazy stories 14. band gets to see football games for free 15. free food 16. allowed to be crazy/weird to the max cuz it's like a cult or whatever x] 17. of course, you develop musical skills, maybe leadership, become a better marcher/player/all that
well thats only some of the reasons.. hehe. i only realized that till i joined marching band for the first time..before i was an ignorant little rookie =P
but band is a great experience =]

band is important to me because the people in it are like family to me. they are the people i see every day, and the people i will go to with my problems. at first i didn't like it because of the bd. but now i love that band director. just today we had a major problem with a boyfriend and a girlfriend breaking up and even though i like the kid who it happened to i don't really talk to him, but today i wanted to just go up and give him a really great big hug. you can also be yourself around all the other band kids in my school without them thinking you are strange (cause they are all like that). band is the most amazing thing to ever happen to me and i'm gonna be sad when it is over.

Because if I didn't join band, I'd still be listening to country music. Seriously, it's practically a sin in our band. If you listen to it, you don't talk about it. I would have a horrible taste in music if it weren't for the friends I've made in band. If I hadn't made those friends, I wouldn't have driven nine ours just to see my favorite band. I wouldn't have met the drummer of another band who knew the drummer from that favorite band, and lets us leave a voicemail on said favorite drummer's phone. I wouldn't have seen three concerts in a span of two months. My musical taste is one of the things that gets me by. There are two types of highs in my life: the one from seeing a great rock concert, and the one from performing a great field show. Both of them come from being in band, in my case. That's my big reason, the friends. But also, currently our band is basically falling apart. It makes me feel good to be one of the surviving members, trying to pull it all back together to where it was when my parents were in school. I would love to see it respected again, instead of laughed at because we're so small and we can't make enough sounds to be a proper pep band. And I'm sure I could find other reasons. but I think I'll leave it at that.

it gives me a reason to go school in the morning. it gives me a reason to stay alive. it gives me a reason to not cut myself. it gives me a reason not to kill myself.
