This is the room for all baritones, euphoniums, tenor tubas, marching trombones, alto horns and tenor horns and their players.
I have a question to ask--can anyone recommend a place to find baritones under $500? I found a silver miniature sort of one for $350 on eBay, but my dad is bound to be skeptical the sale closes on the twelfth, so I don't see that happening. Any advice?

Ebay is probably your best bet. You might try the classifieds of your local paper as well.
But beware of those cheap imitation baritones they have on ebay... They have titles such as TEACHER APPROVED NEW 2008 MODEL.
Good luck!

You're not talking about marching baritones right? Just so I'm getting it straight.
But yeah, eBay is your best bet. The TubaExchange.com has lots of good euphs for cheap, I got my horn there for 1,600. A bit more than 500, but you want to get a nice reliable horn.
ACTUALLY ... I just looked on the side and there is a baritone on there for 495 bucks. I dont know the brand name, however, but I can tel you the website is very reliable, and can probably get you this horn in about 3 weeks, if not sooner.

if you really play all the instruments in low brass, sousabone, may I suggest that you change your name to sousabonium? Just an idea

lol eeh, I've been sousabone for 3 years. No use changing it now. I made the name when I switched from trombone to sousaphone. I learned baritone later on.(like 6 months lol).

I just want to put in props for tenor tubas. I get to play the tenor tuba solo in Holst's Mars... which is an interesting act in itself. I'm actually sharing it withs someone else, as we don't have an outstanding euph. player, but I and my friend both play it and are outstanding brass players in general (I on horn and he on trombone), so we'll be pulling some crazy acrobatics to cover our own parts as well as the tenor tuba part... anyway, it's awesome.

^Wow, that sounds pretty crazy. I've only ever heard of the tenor tuba as being synonymous with the euphonium in Britain-do you know what the instrument looks like

Anyone know about the weird Chinese mouthpieces they make? I mean, it looks like a wine glass, almost. My horn from India came with one, and now that I'm used to it I can handle the partials much easier (played my conductor's trombone piece and yeah sucked), but it's really weird. Great for tongue slurs tho

I'd haveta compare mine to the pictures I saw, but it's a similar idea. Mine has steeper sides, tho...

want to take this opportunity to say I have a new euphonium in my band who switched from mello and it is so nice to have A) someone who can hit high notes (mello mouthpiece will do that) B) can articulate worth a damn (which I can't) and C) to have the director say "baritones" for the first time since I started on bari, instead of just "Oscar"
