Alright, this thread came to mind when I was at an 8 hour rehearsal for Pit Orchestra today.... it seems when we are playing C#s for a while on upbeats, we like to do things while our hands are free, since no buttons are held down. That includes: - Poking the people next to you (incessantly) - Chucking gummi bears at people's heads - Rearranging music - Making funny faces - And others... For you sax players, list things you do when you're playing C#......  |

hmm while playing C# on sax I like to:
>Hit the person next to me.
>Rearrange the persons music next to me.
>Poke the people around me with the folder pencil.
>Write wierd things on the music.
All of these I also do while playing open G on Clarinet.....

Try to do any of that on the flute and you might drop your flute and hurt it. But, you could play Db...that would work. You'd have to do it all one handed though.

lol, but yes... while im playing C# on tenor sax i like to: hit the girl next to me (for hitting her tenor on mine consistantly)..
while playing G on clarinet: smacking the out of tune girls next to me

well, we haven't come up with anything to do in the tenor sax section at our school yet but on one song the whole thing is on B, A and G so Isaac decided to use his right hand and since his left hand was free he always waves it around and danced with it....yes, he's a wierd kid...so now we're trying to convince the rest of the section (there are five of us altogether) to play the song with the wrong hand...

omg, i remember this one certain time, we were tuning, and us clarinets were providing the chord for everyone else to tune to... one at a time. So we sat there on open G for EVER. i started pantomiming to the other girls and we all broke out into the macarena. our BD nearly died laughing and the trumpet who was tuning stopped and was like "I CAN NOT BE THAT OUT OF TUNE!" (as to the BD's laughter) it was so funny

Well... for our warm-up (the Raven's Warm Up) The flutes play in nice long tones, B flate, G, A, Bflat. Since for G we don't need out right hand we tend to whack each other... if the BD isn't watching that is.

our marching band song (estancia) had a ton of C#'s so we would all mess around during our rehersals, like high-fiving, mock directing, or takinga drink from a water bottle. Our bd got reallly annoyed at us, but there was nothinghe coulddo, because i was (and still am) theonly tenor in marching band, and there were only 4 altos, so he kind of needed us

Ahaha. I'm sure my friend [who is switching to sax for next year marching] will enjoy all these things to do while playing a C#. I personaly [if I played sax] would itch my head, mess with the people next to me, I might would have to do they mocarana. HAha, I love that story. Greatness. That's the greatness about trumpet. You always have these options. One hand is always not doing anything [unless your using slides]. In marching band, if people were about to hit you, you were aloud to stiff-arm them. It was really easy for trumpets. Except it hurts when you get stiff-armed. I only got stiff-armed once. AND I AM WAAAAYYY OFF TOPIC!

Oooh, when I play C# on bari during jazz band (or when I have one of my frequent 37-year rests), I like to empty my spit valve... usually right in front of where the guitar player sits. Unfortunately, this doesn't bother him too much (he used to play trumpet, and now he plays baritone). This also doesn't work so well now that our student teacher messed up our arrangement in jazz, so I'd be emptying spit onto the vibes...

In jazz band I have more rests than the bari next to me, and the flute on the other sde doesn't have music to half the songs, playing connect four during those rests with one of them would be great. I think I am going to try that. |
