Ok. So I have a friend who plays saxophone and bassoon. We call her the Saxoonist. She lettered this year and we were talking about what patches she should get to put on her jacket. There was one that was a drill team boot, and in the spirit of band, I told her she should get that one and put on there, "Kick it like a Saxoonist." We thought that was funny. So whenever she's having trouble with a hard lick, I tell her, ______, KICK IT LIKE A SAXOONIST! AHH! Anyone else have random names for double instumentalists or band slogans?

well, that's pretty much the story behind my username. It was before I started horn, so I played trumpet, mello, baritone, and euphonium, so when asked what I played, my response was "the trumellotonium."

We call people who play a woodwind and a brass filthy half-breeds, but that probably doesn't count. One of my filthy half-breed pals would be a ... bassoobone. This reminds me of a conversation I had the other day that ended in another nickname being made for our favorite Silent and Emotionless BD: Tubonium Buddy. Then I remembered something that my WE friend said that Mr. O said. Something about BDs having to learn all the instruments. band director = altbass fliccanexophumpboneubaphonium horn

Mr. D said something about that at one point... "they make you learn all the instruments in college but this section has outplaced my knowledge of the clarinet. There's nothing else i can teach you. get a private teacher or go home." (I went home.)

I'm assuming because double-reeds aren't marching instruments?

Yes. There's a gal at the JH who play bassoon who wants to learn sax instead of the usual default drumline/ pit placement.

we have a bassitone (Bassoon+Baritone), an oboephone (oboe+saxophone), my cousin would be a trumpeiano (Trumpet+piano).
We don't actually call these people these names, but I think this sounds like a fun game...

my friend is a mellianodion (mello/piano/accordion).
My stupid neighbor is considering picking up oboe, making her an alto oboephone. My other french horn playing friend is picking up baritone, so I guess mellophonium.

Well, in flute choir one time, we were playing a march, and one of us referred to the bass flute as a fluba. Likewise, the alto flute became the florn.

Our BD has talked about the pit occasionally, saying "Yeah, those guys are all better percussionists than I'll ever be, so I'm just like, 'play whatever the hell you want, just make it sound good'."
