bass clarinets are so ridiculously easy to get out of adjustment so they won't play right, it makes me sad.

I've never even played around with a bass clarinet.

What brand clarinet do you all have? Mine's Veto, and she works like a charm.

I play a Buffet R13 (Bb) And the Eb is a professional Selmer from the early 70s...I don't think it's a Series 9 Eefer, but it's from the Series 9 Era...I'm still trying to find out a little more information on it. But the Eefer hasn't been played in forever, but plays incredibly in tune, and has a very even scale throughout the range of the instrument. I'm borrowing it from my band director's old band director from HS...Kind of crazy. I love playing the Eb, though! It's so much fun!

i have an amazing(now that they got it fixed!) buffet prestige low C bass clarinet. I love it more than... i dunno. but alot. if i had a boyfriend, i would love the clarinet more. so yeah. javelin, if you lived anywhere near me i would let you play around with my bass clarinet :-P but alas. My soprano Bb clarinet, however, is a vito. horay. perfect for a begining 5th grader, though, which is when i got it. also wonderful for marching, which i dont even do with it anymore. on a side note, if anyone has hte bass clarinet solo in Pines of Rome, or knows where i can get it, you will be my hero forever. i need to learn it before senior regional orchestra.

Is bass all that different from soprano? I'm sure it is, but how?

fingerings are the same for the most part, except really low and really high. The amount of air it takes is a big difference, and the embochure to a lesser extent. the mechanism is bigger, so you can't play technical stuff quite as ridiculously fast, because it just doesnt respond fast enough. The basics are all the same though- it's not a hard switch for most people (though my 2nd chair buddy cannot play soprano, for whatever reason she can't do the embouchure or something).
bass clarinets click. :-P they have so much keynoise, its just kinda a part of the instrument. I like it, it gives it character :-)

When I played bass, it wasn't too big of a switch to Bb. It took me like two days to get used to it. Just like the switch from Eb to Bb did. But now, going from Eb to Bb is nothing. Who on here is trying out for any honor bands. Whether they be All-State, All-Region, ect., ect. What do you think of your music? Do you have any pictures of it? I'll try and get this figured out, and I'll try to post them.

I tried out for Senior Regional Orchestra about a month ago, the event is the 2nd weekend of november. I made it... but i was the only bass clarinet who auditioned. and my audition was crap because my instrument freaked out like 5 min before they called me in the warmup room. (It was reallly weirded up. turns out one of the register vents decided to not close all the way, no idea how that happened. but its fixed now) so im not to proud about making it, but I'm excited. Its gonna be fun- pines of rome has a great bass clarinet solo, apparently! I got the music today, so i haven't really had a chance to look at it. its in italian, and it says Si-b instead of Bb and stuff like that! its neat!

friskylurker, I love the bass solo in Pines of Rome! I also love when the soprano clarinet comes in during your solo (not over-powering you, but adding to you). Have fun with it! I know you will. lol. I've never played it, but I really want to play it. lol. (I miss playing the bass. lol). Flarinet, welcome!!! There might be a logo of your clarinet's brand on either the barrel, upper joint, lower joint, and/or bell. Maybe you can look at someone else's horn, and look at their keywork, and take a look at yours. Keywork varies tremendously from manufacturer to manufacturer (that's something fun to do in itself.). Like I said, Flarinet, welcome! You'll enjoy it here!!!

we discovered part of my pines of rome part is in A, and A bass clarinets don't exist anymore. so my lesson teacher is transposing it for me. I get to play indiana jones as my audition excerpt (one of htem) for symphony orchestra auditions for school!
