We've started playing Mozart and Bach. The Marriage of Figaro overture and Come Sweet Death are my two favorite songs.
And you can't go wrong with Sousa.

I love Grainger. He writes really fun parts for alto clarinet. And I like his songs too. Even though he just collected it, but didn't write it, I love Londonderry Air.

Whitacre and Holst.
(But yeah, mostly anyone who's not Ticheli, Grainger, Sousa, or Robert W. Smith. Played them too much to even care about their songs anymore.)

Grainger did collect and arrange some great stuff. I think my fave piece of his is Horkstow Grange from Lincolnshire Posy.

David Gillingham anyone? I'd never heard of him until just this year, and he has pretty much jumped to the top of my list of favorite composers. There's just so much to his pieces, it's incredible. If you've never heard any of his stuff, look up "Heroes, Lost and Fallen" and for sure "With Heart and Voice". Beautiful stuff I also like most Ticheli and Hazo. As far as movie scores go, I love Hans Zimmer and John Williams (particularly his Jurassic Park work), and some James Horner. The problem with Horner is that a lot of his themes and motives are very similar...

tchaikovsky and ticheli. When we were playing Vesuvius our band director is good friends with him so he had him come and conduct on our concert. It was excellent.
