I think everyone loves John Philip Sousa. WRONG! Representing horn players worldwide, there is a great deal of contempt for John Philip Sousa and his infernal offbeats.

I guess just the woodwinds, then. We clarinets don't really mind him as much as you brass players.

Bartok, Debussy (!!!!!), Ravel, Holst, Bach, Vivaldi and for marching band we are playing "Pictures at an Exposition" well its a arranged version but ya its a blast!
and then MANY MANY jazz composers who it would take forever to list.
I dont like Mozart sorry. Its just too... I dunno it bores me.

NOOO NOT Sousa, bassoons get these dumb parts in marches. like for The Thunder. basically you can just play the notes on and 1 and the 2 of each messure, my teacher even just told me to play what ever i liked. I made up a more fun variation of what we had to play. bassically bassoons just get random parts that no one can hear because its just them play it and its sometimes crazy all over the place so we have something to do while no one is hearing us. And when I played alto sax my BD made me play a french horn part and that was sooooo boring so I am sorry horn players. i dooo nottt like sousa! haha if you couldnt tell

i would have to say Holst is my favorite. i love First Suite in Eb and Second Suite In F...Second Suite is my favorite song ever! i've played it a few times. i also love the Planets. i could listen to Holst forever.
i also like Carl Stamitz. he wrote the Concerto that i played for solo and ensemble contest. it was really fun.

Copland. And I also like Berenstein and Mozart a lot. But Copland is my favorite by a long, long gap.

Samuel R. Hazo. He made some of my favorites. Sevens, Perthshire Majesty, Ride, Ascend......All great pieces. ... Olympiada! I like Mozart sometimes. I loved the clarinet concerto (till I played it!). I also must give Gershwin a round of applause, if for nothing but Rhapsody in Blue--I've never performed the piece, but I want music so I can sliiiiide! I also like Vivaldi (Movement 1 of Four Seasons). I am rather holding a grudge against Adam Gorb (Eine Kleine Yiddishe Ragmusik) at the moment. I John Williams and Howard Shore (Star Wars, some Harry Potter & LOTR, respectively) for movie music.

How ever bad this may be, amy favorite composer is Alan Manken. Yes, the composer of, what seem slike, all the scores in the 90's Disney musicals...Newsies, Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin, Little Mermaid, Litttle Shop of Horrors (not his best work, good play though.), more commonly Ella Enchanted (I have yet to see this, so I don't know how well of a job he did here), Hercules, Pocahantos, THe HUnchback of Notre Dame, Life With mikey (havn't seem this one either), and a few others like the music for the Simpsons in a few episodes, and Sesame Street music here and there too.
If I had to pick a composer that most bands would do, I'd have to say Holst. I love his works. We played 2nd Suit in F this year and I still love listening to the CD of it we got.
Another composed I like, that no one has ever heard of is Rob Gardner. His work isn't impressive, but there's something about it I just love. His tuba parts are SO boring though. I'm playing one of his orchestrations this summer and am going insane with boredom during practices.

I have issues with the new world symphony. It's not bad, actually, if it wasn't for my third and fourth year of band I'd probably love it, except EVERYONE had to play it over and over it just got too old too fast. Otherwise it's really good I think.
