And Best Excuse for Being Late to Band, that's another one we have. Oh wow...we could do some awsome stuff with that one....but that involves stories, so another time. We do one called the Lurch Award. Its given to the student who is always there when needed by the BD, usually a manager. Its based on the butler on the Adams Familly, who always resonds to an order with "oookkkkaaaayyyyy"... *hums tune from The Adams Family* This is off-topic: My BD makes us play the Adams Family theme in every key as part of warm-ups. Apprently it's supposed to help with scales? I'm not really sure why we do that...

I believe my hs band award was "Section Leader who COULDN"T tune to the concert Bb," because I can't hear it very well, so I always had my 2nd chair do it.

Id say go for really really specific ones. Last year our pit orchestra instated the "That Didn't Work" award, after something our BD said it. Some of those awards were:
"Bled to death in rehearsal and most hydrated" (myself, I busted my lip on the last rehearsal and had to sit out the rest of the songs, and also I always had water nearby) "Plays every instrument except the kitchen sink" "Thinks the tiki-hut scratch thing can be an actual instrument" "Needs to stop getting changed behind stage steps"

if u have someone who bikes everyday to practice and stuff, here's one:
"see you at Tour De France" Award
to a person who has been like a mother to the section:
"Sectional Mother" award
for the section leader giving one to themselves:
"I Can Do Whatever I Want Because I'm A Senior" award
and for someone kinda on the short side who dated someone extremely tall:
"Mountain Climber" award
idk. Just some that has been given in my section at my school's Marching Band

We give out our awards at our Band Camp Dance, which is during the night of the last day of band camp. The Seniors make up the Freshmen awards, and the Juniors will make up Senior awards. They're usually some kind of joke, but here are a few from years past as well as a few we're thinking of for the freshmen this year.. :: Annual :: "Club Band" award [if you dress in stuff that looks good for band camp] "The Freshmen Sweetheart" award "Biggest Band Geek" award the "I think I'm a senior" award :: All in Good Fun :: "The Salty Water" award [the drumline tossed an underclassmen pit member into a pool during camp......] "And the Oscar goes to.." award [aka Biggest Drama Queen or Best Excuses] the "But Miss Mary told me to put my feet together!" award the "Ya gonna eat that, drink that, sniff that?, etc" award [that was mine last year when I switched sections] the "I'm the better ____" award [if you have two people of the same name in the same section. ie: we have two snare players named Cameron. They're often referred to as Salt & Pepper .] .. I can't remember the rest of them right now, but they're usually really funny, but all in good fun =].
