My mom and dad heard about this kid on the news before the Pitt vs. Louisville game - it's a really neat story! His name is Patrick Henry Hughes and was born with no eyes, paralyzed in the legs, with scoliosis, and has limited mobility of his arms. Yet he still plays trumpet and piano and sings - the really cool part is is that he wanted so desperately to be in the Louisville Marching Band that his dad actually went to all the practices and learned his drill spots with him. He pushes him around in his wheelchair for the whole show while Patrick plays the trumpet! Talk about dedication... Here's his website: www.patrickhenryhughes.com/

I went to a parade where one of the clarinet players was being pushed in a wheelchair by one of the younger looking marchers. But this guy.... wow.

And then to think that he has to learn all the music by ear, because he can't see music, he can't see anyone demonstrate anything, he misses out on the sight of a huge audience cheering for him... yet I'm sure he gets so much more.

Really? I think it's great to show peoples' amazing accomplishments and dedication like that. And especially a band student like that.
