I graduated last Tuesday, and I got sick Friday night and felt bad for about 3 days. Not horrible, but it pissed me off majorly at the time.

[/IMG]
I'm pretty much an anomaly to this forum because I hate marching band and quit band entirely because of it. But nonetheless, I can't STAND when people screw things up for everyone else. Sure, I did my slacking in marching band when I was in it. But when it came to taking away everyones' breaks or something like that, I actually tried because it's selfish and annoying to do otherwise. Good luck with your band SaxGirl...

But when it came to taking away everyones' breaks or something like that, I actually tried because it's selfish and annoying to do otherwise. Good luck with your band SaxGirl...
Thank you. I think we'll do just fine this year. Quite frankly, my class is one of the most dedicated group of students to come through the band in years (though the group when my class was in 8th grade was stellar), and under our leadership, I believe that we can make a difference. I am incredibly close friends with literally almost all of the section leaders; we're the "good" kids who care and take it seriously, yet most of us are easy-going and will not cut your head off if you mess up. Therefore, I think this year will be fine, but we're all frustrated so far because many of the new freshman haven't learned what it is like and what it takes to be in marching band. I suppose band camp will fix that problem. "If you can't take the heat, then get out the kitchen" is the adage that I try to repeat at practices. Even though you quit band, dumb major, it seems like you at least cared enough while you were in it to realize when people took advantage of the director or the program, and got angry about it. It just royally ticks me off when people put themselves in front of another 160 band members. To me, band should be selfless and unified. Alas, some people just by their nature will never understand this... the venting room will always be open because of their personalities.

We're losing our 3rd and soon 4th member of the barn staff, only 3 weeks after the start of our employment. I know the employment is at will but honestly couldn't they suck it up for 5 more weeks till the end of the season? This gives us all way too much work, we're already over worked and this adds more to us. We sarted with 16 barn staff, and now after this week we will be down to 13 or 12. That's a massive change when we're going from 8 to 5 with barn lesons. 4 riding lessons and 2 ground lessons per period and there are 4 periods. It's insane.

On my ever so amazing backpacking trip, we played '5 minutes of fame' where one person was asked questions for five minutes. Well, I got asked about my most embarassing moment, and I chose to tell them. Now they're cracking "well have fun, but not too much fun" jokes. Its so annoying. I suppose it's my fault, but I dunno...

I worked a lot the past two weeks-- over 50 hours. Now this week I'm only working 10, 2 of which are just a meeting. I didn't necessarily want to work as much as I did last week, but can't I get something in between? So not only will I not make as much money, but it makes it so much harder to meet my sales goal. When I am there, we have all these random projects which means I can't focus on customers as much. Not to mention we STILL don't have our schedule for the rest of July. Normally we get the entire next month's schedule by about the 25th of the previous month. It's so hard to plan anything-- especially college visits!!-- without knowing. Today someone from work called me and asked if I could come in. I already made plans with my friend, so I said no, and now they're mad at me. I'm not sure I like this whole "under new management" business...I miss my old boss!

my appologies. Had to rant about it.

my old high school is not fielding a marching band this season. I saw it coming. My senior year was the last year the band was actually any good ... we got new uniforms, which in my mind was a DUMB idea ... the band went to disney the following year (still VERY bitter about that ... moreso the fact our director told us AT OUR SENIOR CONCERT that the band would go .. way to ruin it) ... anyways they went to Disney, didn't place at ACC's ... didnt have a very good season ... and now a ton of members quit because its just not fun anymore.
So they are now a pep band. Sucks, but at the same time ... "I told you so ...."

Our Bd only asks for us four days during the summer. Is that really too much to ask?!?!?!?!
There have been quite a few people that have said they can't make it to band camp. Well, so much for a good senior marching season. Starting out of the the gate behind and discouraged. I just hope that I'm over-reacting, and they will show up, but things like this don't surprise me.
Another Vent: Our Bd wants to do Amazing Grace as the closer, which I think is a great idea. It's a great arrangement, we've already played it, and it will be a crowd pleaser. You're probably wondering where my vent is. Well, the color guard director (we call them "dance line") doesn't think it's a good idea because...get this... "They can't dance to it."
...
We have a Spanish piece in the show, that must not be enough. I understand that dancing is important in a show, but it's not worth compromising the finale of the show just to get a little more dancing in. And our color guard doen't even use weapons. Just Flags and dance. And judging from past experiences, we will probably pull Amazing Grace from the show. But I've lost passion for wanting the best for our band, so I'm just going to march and play to the best of my ability and not give a da** about the general effect of the show. I know that sounds like a bad band member, but I'm tired of being dissapointed by looking forward to something very promising and then being let down.

According to my exboyfriend, highschool's about having fun. So that's how he took our relationship. He lied to me so he could protect himself from hurt after we broke up.
