wow. see, we are only inside a couple practices out of the entire fall season. and it's not even a gym. we're in a fricken cafeteria that has support beams all through it and a super low cealing. usually we're outside with the band more than the pit and drumline are. during band camp we sometimes even have our sectionals outside behind the colliseum. [[we go to JSU for band camp.]]

wow lucky. the other captain is in yearbook, so hopefully our spread will be better this year. =) Our winter guard didn't get in the yearbook. They put in a different school's guard. That was a nightmare. Oh, and I understand where people are coming from when they say it's not that hard. It's because you guys make it look too easy, and they just take it from that. For people that aren't involved in the activity, they just base it on how easy it looks. Personally, I have alot of respect for the guard. I was helping my friend learn to do a toss for the drumline show, and it took days just to catch it, let alone not having it fly forward and hit someone (ie me).

yeah, this was the first time our winterguard got in the yearbook and it was just a group photo with our names. marching band always gets a two-page spread though which is pretty cool, and the years where we have cool shows we end up in the school paper and on the student news station. our football team pretty much ignores us and we can't make fun of them for being terrible because they're the defending state champs for the past two years. we get mad at the freshman, sophomore, and jv teams for leaving their mouth guards on the turf where we practice. wow. see, we are only inside a couple practices out of the entire fall season. and it's not even a gym. we're in a fricken cafeteria that has support beams all through it and a super low cealing. usually we're outside with the band more than the pit and drumline are. during band camp we sometimes even have our sectionals outside behind the colliseum. [[we go to JSU for band camp.]] yeah, for a lot of our winterguard rehearsals and some fall ones we end up in the cafeteria which isn't completely horrible. the ceiling is high enough, there just isn't a lot of room to move around, there aren't any doors to block out ambient noice from the hallways (especially on concert nights because the music area is right near it), we have to move the tables and chairs ourselves, and the floor is just downright nasty.

There's this pit guy that everyone wants to punch in the face. Well, last year at band camp, he was like, "Geez, you guys have it so lucky. Pit is the hardest thing in marching band. Memorizing all that stuff, moving all that stuff, and having to play and watch the drum major is hard." I went right up to him, and yelled. "Try playing, marching, watching the drum major, and doing it with good technique and tone quality. Try doing it outside, in 95 degree weather, for over 12 hours. Try getting to all your drill spots, and keeping a straight line. Try doing that with only one water break an hour. Try doing outside of your stupid air conditioned pit area. If you ever say that pit is harder again, I will personally shove a tuba over your head." He never said anything about that again.

^Just keep in mind that melodic percussion is one of the hardest instruments in the band (I'm serious), because they have many times more buttons than you do and only two things to hit them with. Picture playing a clarinet with two fingers. Now picture playing a clarinet with ten times as many buttons, with two fingers.

He ment in general.
And do you have to comment on everything I say? It's like every time I say something, it's not good enough. Give me a break.

hahaha yeah there's a couple kids that dared to say that to a guard girl before.... i thought he was going to get a pole shoved up his butt. lol.
so the other day, this obnoxious baseball player at my school commented on something i was talking about [[our latest performance]] and was like "what's the point? no one watches you, no one cares. you're all pansies. baseball is a real sport. ya'll don't even do anything. it seriously can't be all that hard." did i mention that half my class is made up of marching band kids?? no?? well it is... needless to say i wanted to shoot him in the face....

yeah, there's this one trombone player who thinks that our guard isn't hardcore like the rest of the band. he just likes to think the band is hardcore. whenever they're given a parade rest command, everyone starts talking. not hardcore to me.

One time this guy was talking to me about marching band, and he was like, "You guys just walk around the field right?" So, I said, "Yeah, just like the football teams just runs around. And how the soccer team just kicks a ball. And how a tennis player just moves their racket. And how a gymnast just moves around weird." They were like, "So, you just walk around the field?" This guy is not a bright person at all.
