KKY is a service fraternity operating in the field of college and university bands. Try to distinguish yourself as someone who will go the extra mile to help the band out. Help set up before rehearsals and help clean up after. If your schedule prevents that, ask your director what you can do to help. Or ask the KKY people! Tell them you really want to become a brother, and ask flat out what they're looking for.
Also, ask the brothers what happened that you weren't voted in last time, as I see you posted above. I cannot reveal the details of the process here, but suffice it to say there must have been a sufficient cause in the chapter's mind to prevent you from being accepted, if you passed all of your membership education tests and such. Don't be afraid to ask; you have a right to know and should be infomed.

At URI, we don't have a "rush week" per se. Rather, we have several activities we set up so that those interested in becoming Prospective Members can meet the chapter and we can get to know them better. For example, we have bowling night and movies nights, etc. It's not required that you go, but being there certainly helps your candidacy. How much it helps varies from person to person.
Of course, I can only speak for my chapter. Different chapters do things differently. But every chapter should be looking for people who exemplify the ideals of the Brotherhood, whether they are socially active or not.

I'm fairly sure my chapter's sponsor is an honorary member of the ASU chapter, since he was a graduate assistant there.
Of course, he's also an honorary member of our chapter!

Congrats to those who made it into KK Psi!!!!!!!!! I didn't get in for this year , but I am going to try and get into it next year here at Ashland University. I didn't get in the first time I pledged, and for good reasons, it was my first freshman year and I needed to do some growing up. My second freshman year I pledged again and had a great time and worked hard and was accepted as a brother. It was worth all of the work. Talk to the brothers, show up at events, help out when it is time to help out, show up at service activities, even if you aren't required to be there. Really, they tell you right up front what you need to do: Be it known that Kappa Kappa Psi, National Honorary Fraternity for College Band Members is an organization operating exclusively in the field of the college and university bands, and for the following several purposes: 1. To promote the existence and welfare of the college and university bands and to cultivate at large a wholesome respect for their activities and achievements. 2. To honor outstanding band members through privilege of membership extended as a reward for technical achievement and appreciation for the best in music. 3. To stimulate campus leadership and promulgate an uncompromising respect through the medium of the college band for gracious conduct, good taste, and unswerving loyalty. 4. To foster a close relationship between college bands and promote a high average of attainment by the performance of good music and selection of worthwhile projects. 5. To provide a pleasant and helpful social experience for all engaged in college band work and to cooperate with other musical organizations in any manner consistent with the purposes of the institution at which chapters are located. If you feel like you have done those things to the best of your ability (looking back on my first attempt, I know that I didn't), then talk to one of the brothers that you trust and ask them for some suggestions on what you should do differently next time.

^ I wholeheartedly agree! Knowing how to define "promulgate" is a plus, too.

Promulgate was a fun word to try and remember lol.
We have a rush week type deal and we don't consider people who didn't go to at least one rush day. This year we're doing something different...we're having a small service project before each activity because it is a SERVICE fraternity and that'll give our rushees a clear idea on what we do. As one of our activities we're doing group initiatives and that'll definately give us an idea of the rushees' personalities.

I'm actually considering doing Spring Rush for KKPsi. Which is kind of noteworthy, since a semester ago I never would have thought I'd find myself considering joining a fraternity.
We'll see how it goes.
