lets see.
it would be fun to do a show based on wagners ring cycle. Dumb down some of the pieces. Like sigfrieds funeral march (which is SO fun to play if you are a bassoon or bass clairinet) and "entrance of the gods into valhalla"
I havent seen that yet.....it dosent play very often.......and when it does it takes a week to run Once. 24 hour opera, they run it in 5 hour segments, and then a 4 hour segment ussually. It took me about half that long to read the saga of the Volsungs. Which is what the ring cycle is based off of, supposedly.
Brunhilde, is basically a real life zena warrior princess, but norse, and not so wierd, and with out the scream. and physically more appealing, becuse she was a valkyrie. Just saying
Brubhilda- is where we get the phrase "it isnt over tell that fay lady sings" wagnars opera is supposed to be beautiful, but he picks the saga apart.
FYI the saga of the volsungs is considered to be the father of all fantasy novels. So all you harry potter fans, cant ever bash the vikings.
But that would be soooo much fun.

Disney's Illuminations: Reflections of Earth would be an awesome show... it's the music they set their fireworks to in Epcot. And if you have ever been to Disney, I'm sure you can atest to the fact that Disney fireworks truly are a magical thing.

Watchman, Tell us of the Night.
Somehow, someway someone could arrange that into an amazing marching arrangement.
I know I could write a sick baritone solo for it as the closer... whoo!

I've started writing a few shows that I think would totally rock:
Gershwin: Prelude #1 from 3 Preludes An American in Paris Rhapsody in Blue
Classical Fantasia: Tocatta in D Minor (Bach)/ Egmont (Beathoven) The Marriage of Figarro (Mozart)/ New World Symphony (Dvorak) Sostokavich Fifth
I love all of those pieces...

Sooo... I have already seen a band do like every single show someone has mentioned that they wanted to do. Seriousley.
EXCEPT
A show with like Mario Bros, Tetris, etc. Our band director tried to trick us last year saying that we were doing a Mario show... haha yea right We're doing a Danny Elfman show instead...
I always wanted to do a show with Ride by Samuel Hazo... but... 2 bands in my district this year have done that, and it truly doesn't work well as a marching peice... definitely more of a concert peice...

Maybe a Frank Ticheli show... now THAT would be cool. We could have Vesuvius as the opener, or maybe closer, and then work in An American Elegy, Joy Revisited as some little happy-yay-band type of song, and then something else cool... Another good Ticheli one could be just his Symphony #2. It would have to be chopped up a lot though. The whole thing is about 20 minutes long. The second movement would make for a good ballad. You know... please don't shoot me, for the most part I don't really like Frank Ticheli. It's just too... modern I guess, I dunno, a lot of the stuff just doesn't interest me.

I've developed a new ideal show, it's a piece called Bandancing by Jack Stamp. It's a piece in 5 movements, City Shuffle Tango City Waltz Slow Dance Last Dance The recording is here - www.jwpepper.com/ram/2481304.ram, it's of the IUP Wind Ensemble. Check it out. Gah, I can so easily picture some cool drill and body movements for this type of show.
