Well, like Ba|2itone, if it's a light cold, I would definitely play. Maybe if it's a little worse, I'll still probably play also. But if it's awful, like uncontrollable snot/ really sore throat or the like, I don't think I'd be able to stand experiencing that while playing my trumpet...

I can't stand not being able to play. I remember in middle school once I had a sore throat and the bd said I could just finger along. I couldn't stand it. Halfway through I gave up and started playing through the pain.

I dont play my instrument when I'm sick. Maybe because I never just get "a cold", but I always feel so terrible I can't do much. I was told stricly NOT to play when I had tonsilitis, as I could get stuff trapped and keep getting it (even though I still keep getting it) and also to not play for the week I was okay but on antibiotics. Stuff like that, follow your doctor ... but the simple cold will be fine to play through, I think.

I still play when I'm sick, unless I get dizzy. I just use an older mouthpiece, clean it after every time, and clean the instrument about once or twice a week.

I usually either A. don't play because it hurts too much and I'm not at school, or B. if I have to, and anytime I do get sick (incubation period), I soak my mouthpiece and reeds in Listerine (the extra strength one) for about 3 hours afterward.

I left early in my homecoming game because my throat got so clogged at halftime I couldn't breath...I uh was inhaling mucus through my instrument for weeks

pardon my saying so but... ew. My throat hurting really is a bane to my playing because I apparently chose the wrong instrument- I can crank out waaay more air than what the standard Bb clarinet can take. This results in a buildup of pressure in my throat, right in the spot that has the pain. Ugh.

I refuse to play when I have a sore throat. It just doesn't work for me.

^Yeah, AC it was pretty gross. I cleaned it before I gave it to my third chair.

My sophomore year I had to get my tonsils out and if I didn't get a doctors note my old BD was going to make me play. I also got them out 3 days before a festival. But we already had to move the date due to finals. So, I had no choice. But the old BD survived and didn't make me play.
This doesn't even really fit with being sick, but oh well?

I dont practice but always show up for rehearsal. In marching band on a saturday rehearsal (here in AZ the temp goes well over 100) I had a cold and almost passed out of the field. They let me sit out for a long time...

I generally do play when it's not a serious kind of sick (like throwing up, etc.). The funny thing I've noticed, is that sometimes when I play and have a bit of a stopped up nose or slight cold, by the time I'm done playing I feel a bit better and (if I had been having nose issues) am even able to breathe freely through my nose. Weird, but yeah...

I play no matter what. I'm one of those die hard people. I was once so sick, that during an after school practice, i didn't sweat in 80 degree weather. I ended up skipping the second half of practice due to stomach problems. XD
