this saturday (10/10/09) one of my band directors (we have 2) died when one of the band buses rolled. they (i was not on the trip) were coming back from a competition and the bus driver passed out and when my bd took the wheel and tried to get back on the road, she over-corrected and the bus rolled off the road into a ditch, she was thrown out of the bus and died instantly. no one else died, but there were broken bones. when i found out i was absolutely crushed, i couldn't stop crying, and i'm very sad, so is the rest of the band. has anyone had this sort of experience? how do u deal with it? thanks.

DD': Oh my gosh. That is terrible. :[[ I hope all goes well.
Our Jazz director passed away in 2004 (I don't remember the cause). I don't know exactly what happened, but it was a depressing time. The 2004 field show was in his honor, as was the new concert hall. His son just graduated.
This happened when I was in elementary school, so I can only give my sympathy to you, your band members, and the family. Best wishes to all of you.

aww, i hope you and your fellow band members can make it through this tragedy!!!
yeah, my freshman year of high school (2005) there was a band bus crash where the bus driver, a director, and at least one student were killed. They hit a truck that had jackknifed in the middle of the highway. the winterguard dedicated their 2006 show to the band director. you can find a lot of stories on it if you search chippewa falls band.

My condolences to American Fork's loss...performing to the best of your ability is the best way to honor her memory. Look up Spirit of Atlanta in 1980 for a similar situation...the instructor who died is now the namesake of the DCI brass trophy.
I know one of your assistant directors from the Blue Devils board(he's a fellow alum, although he marched after I did).

My condolences to American Fork's loss...performing to the best of your ability is the best way to honor her memory. My condolences. As Sam said. Performing to the best of your ability is definitely the best way to honor her. what better honor than to continue toward the achievement she was trying to help you to gain.

In 2005 on our way home from State Competition, our first bus got into an accident. Our band director 'G' was killed, along with his wife, granddaughter, our student teacher and the bus driver. It's the same thing that KUguardgrl13 posted about. I'm from Chippewa Falls, and just graduated. My class was the last class to have had G, so we played our freshman year marching show (Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves) for graduation.
It was a really hard time for our whole band, though it didn't really start bothering me until my sophomore year. I know after four years there are still some former band members who are having a rough time, but are grateful to have the support of everyone else who went through the experience.
I know your band will be there for each other and things will slowly get better. I know me and the rest of the Chippewa Falls Marching Cardinals offer their sympathy and hope that things get better!

yeah, i remember that the Chippewa Falls Colorguard did a tribute winterguard show at the northstar circuit championships in april 2006. i don't think there was a set of dry eyes in the entire arena when they finished.
