Without band, I really wouldn't be doing anything with my life. I would just get home from school and have nothing to look forward to. Because I'm in band, I have pep band, concerts, band trips, and even practicing to keep my life into spiraling into nothingness. I also have met and became friends with people that I would never talk to ever if they weren't in band. I get to know so many cool people, and be so close to them. It's like a big family. And band is so much fun. Whenever we get all 1's at festival or do an amazing performance, I get that awesome feeling of togetherness that makes me so happy. Band is one of the best things I could have ever been in.

'Cause if I wasn't in band, I wouldn't know what to do with my life. Every day would be exactly the same, I'd hang out with a bunch of outcasts, and my life would be just a seriously boring blur. With band, I never know if I'm going to stay after school, and for how long. I've met very interesting people who share several of my main traits. Roughly 90% of my friends, I've met through band. Some of them weren't exactly dependable, but the others would do anything for me, and I would do anything for them. If one of us falls, at least two people stop and stay with them until they're back on their feet again. Who else can brag that they have a 300 member, tight-knit family that all go to the same school? And don't get me started on why playing my instrument is close to my heart ...

Band is my life. I have a family there, with 150 brothers and sisters and a whole mob of loving band parents. I have found my best friends in the band, my closest friends in the band, my friends in the band, my acquaintances in the band. I have found myself through the band. I have become confident, optomistic (usually), outgoing, friendly, proud, non-nervous, and proud through band. I have learned what it means to be part of something bigger than myself in band. I have learned how to deal with social problems in band. I have learned to laugh at myself through band. I have learned I can deal with and work through pain, heat, cold, sweat, sickness, injury, and humiliation through (marching) band. I have learned how to make friends and solve problems in band. I have learned about life through band. I think it is the most important thing in my life.

Why is band important to me? Wow... such an amazing question in my opinion. It's because I get to become a part of something greater than myself. When I'm with them or even in the band room it feels as if nothing else in the world matters anymore. One big happy... sometimes drama filled family.... but we be through it. It just makes me feel like... I have a place in this world... and the "cool" kids don't matter, cause to the band, you are the "cool" kids.
Something else of notice... we all basically have the same answers lol! ;D

Band is important to me because music is the only thing that has always made sense. Everything else has gotten complicated, and confusing (math, lit, science, friendships). But music isn't. The most complex peice of music still breaks down into notes and rhythms. I can still work my way through it, knowing I will understand it and be able to produce real music when I am finished. Music is elemental, it's an innate sense of right-ness. And band is the only place I can feel that in a way that makes me believe in genuine goodness. 200 people working towards a common goal, that perfect unity of sound and motion. 80 people working towards a common moment, that perfect depiction of emotion and humanity in sounds. Band is important to me because it is everything that makes sense in the world.
Band is also the only place I can feel accepted without feeling the necessity to change something. There is no judgement. I can be myself, and let myself breakdown sometimes without fear. Band is the only place I feel truly safe and comfortable. They are my family, friends, support. Band is the reason I haven't given up yet. Band is the reason I don't have more scars. Band is the reason I didn't fall apart in high school and am going onto college. Band is the reason I know I can overcome challenges and will be ok no matter what life throws at me.

Because I get to play my bassoon, which is pretty much the most awesome thing ever! ;D Also without those first six years I probably wouldn't be playing bassoon now. So they're important, too. I would love to say it's given me friends, but not even band people are trustable.

When I was in 5th grade, I joined band because I wanted to play around with big shiney instruments.
Nowadays, at least in the fall, competitions and games are the highlights of my weeks. I love the feeling of everyone marching in time and contributing to the whole. In the fall I was afraid of most of the upperclassmen. But in those few anxious minutes before the band takes the field in a competition, we could all relate to each other because we all had a single goal and purpose: to perform the best show possible. And when I finally understood that the universal goal of seniors had nothing to do with stuffing freshmen in trashcans, I relaxed and stopped being so shy. All thanks to band! Getting over fear of upperclassmen is only one small reason in millions why band is important to me.

I honestly don't know why I'm in band although I've loved it since I began on trumpet in fourth grade. Music has always been just a big part of my life. I've grown up in a church where music is emphasized, piano, oregon, special musical numbers, ect. always happen, so I grew up with it when I was younger, and just fell in love. I think the reason why I like band versus just piano lessons is it gives me a way to connect to others. I just transfered out of the lower level band at my school at sememster (We divide into grades, and my scedual didn't permit me to be in freshman band so I transfered into Marching/Symphonic) and I've really been able to connect with people who just love band for band. We don't always love the director, but we put up with him, and I guess he puts up with us, just for the sake of music.

I'm in band because it gives me a sense of belonging. I can be myself around my 72 brothers and sisters, and not feel awkward. I was never gifted at anything, so I decided to give band a try. I'm glad I did. Without it, I have no idea where I would be. Marching band taught me self-discipline, boosted my self-esteem, and it got me over my fear of upperclassmen. If I hadn't been a sixth grader who went up to my parents and said, "Mom, dad, I want to be in band." I would probably be in an asylum. Band also lets me escape from my problems. When I play, I feel nothing but my clarinet in my hands, hear nothing but the music resonating throughout the room, see nothing but the music on the stand. Its my entire life.

Band is something that has given me a sense of accomplishment. I do several activities in school, including JROTC (which is what I'm almost always doing when I'm not in band). But for me, when we got straight superiors at FBA or when I got third chair our of eleven flutes, it gave me more of a sense of accomplishment that anything else I've done this entire year. Band also gave me a family. We fight, we argue, but in the end, we're together through everything. I know that at any given time, I have 60 people that I can go to for anything, from gas money to a hug. They're the people who have seen me looking my best, but who have also seen me at five in the morning before a band trip.
My band isn't the greatest band. We're not anything special. We're not huge, nor are we exceptionally good. But we're a family.
That's why band is important to me.

Band is important to me because I know that I can rely on everyone in it. I mean, really, everyone is friends, we may have little fights every once in awhile, but we know that in the end it'll all work out. I also lets me play my flute, which is the most wonderful thing in the world!

Lets see. I am in band because it gives me something to be a part of. Everyone is always working together to acheive a common goal which is to improve each performance. Band makes me feel like I belong to something. If I am having a hard time at home of school, I can just listen to old tapes or play my clarinet and I will feel better. I always know that everyone in the band has my back and I can count on them to always be there for me when I need them. I had reason to quit four years ago, but I am glad I stuck it out to find the new band director because this is the best thing that has ever happened to me. He has taught me so much about music and life.
