My saxophone has been to hell and back, as far as injuries go. It plays better than I ever remember it playing in 5th-6th grade, though, so no huge complaints. What I do remember, though, is having three sets of major problems. The first time, one of the springs came loose, and I couldn't play anything but a few notes. Apparently, our section leader had this problem a week before, and managed to put the spring back into place. Voila, works again. A week or two later, at one of the home band games, I set my saxophone on the stands and went to get a drink from the band coolers. Of course, when I looked back, a guard member I didn't identify knocked my saxophone to the ground. Besides losing my reed and getting mud all through the mouthpiece and ligature, it ended up that one of the keys bent so I couldn't play at all. It took several weeks to send it out and have it fixed via the school, so when I got a rental sax to replace it from a music store, they invited us to use this one repairman that can get stuff done in a day or so. So, just two days ago - Tuesday - I set my saxophone on a chair and went to go get the tenor saxophone for our ensemble. Of course, even though it seemed stable, the sax fell off the chair and landed on the ground backwards. Chipped reed, another bent key, couldn't play again. So, we had to rush it to the repairman to have it ready for the concert. Thankfully, we got it back in time for the concert on Wednesday, so all is well now.

Heh. I used to play clarinet, and in 5th grade, we were walking the hall, playing for different classes, and I accidentally dropped my clarinet, and the mouthpiece chipped off. Not too long after, I chipped it again. So, I'm on my 3rd clarinet mouthpiece. That's about as close as I came to killing an instrument.

LOL, I've ripped my whisper key pad off twice with my bocal... I hate doing that, I'm REALLY careful now.
My cork has fallen off my old sax and the pads have become unaligned before but nothing serious has ever happened. A lot of the laquor has come off due to my freshman marching season but in my oppinion the less laquor you have on a sax, the better it sounds, at that goes for any sax, I've played tons of old and new one's and the un-laquored saxes are ALWAYS more in tune and consistant throughtout their ranges.

Oh, so that's what it's called... I don't know. It just fell off. What do you expect when it's held on only by 5 millimeters squared of melted metal? Its wierd im a brass player and i know what a register key is It happens. Cant say that i have. Bassoons get special treatment most of the time so i cant even emphasize with the waiting. Also i have never broken my bassoon (there was an incident with my bocal) I am however very sorry

The worst i've ever done to my instrument is rip string off the tendons, as they were loose and getting in the way. And that was done unintentionall. My freshman year, however, this senior was using his gorgeous open holed flute during band camp, and left it in his char. He was certianly NOT a small guy, and forget it was there, and sat down. Needless to say, the flute did not survive....

LIAR. you threw out part of your clarinet. i broke so many trombones i cant even tell you. but thats because they were old and i was ambitious. but yeah nothing new corks and some slide grease couldve prevented.

I messed my clarinet in ways unseen by man, or atleast my band director. Hee, hee.
..I also chipped a mouth piece after it did a head dive off of a desk I had it on when I was about to put it away. =/

I've never killed my sax (haven't had her long enough to name her) but i have totally killed Tovah (my violin). I got home of District solo and ensemble contest last year and I was playing and went downstairs while carrying her under my arm. She slipped out and landed scroll first on the tile. She snapped across the peg box through two of the holes. The shop told me they couldn't fix her without putting a new neck on(they didn't have any glue they would trust with the pressure of the strings), but my dad gorilla glued her back together.

i've killed a nearly dead bassoon over and over many times. pads fell off, rods bent while in case -which scares me still- i picked up a bocal and the reciever tab fell off. yes i said it FELL OFF.. thats like drilling a hole through the neck or barrel of your horn..it won play! case handle snapped when i was walking home one afternoon as well.. duct-tape works wonders!

OMG... One of our clarinets got mad one time and threw hers down.. And it broke i half. Then when the drum major asked her where her clarinet was, she was like "I broke it" Then one of the moms was like "We're trying to find the super glue!!" OMG it was so funny..

Its sad, I've got a completely different everything since I've started band... I miss my old clarinet so badly... the one I have now is the same....except its kind of defective and squeaky... and I recently broke my mouthpiece and had to get a new one... it was just sad.

Yeah... so today... when we were packing up after jazz... I was putting my sax... in it's case... *sob*... and... and... THE OCTAVE BAR THINGY FELL OFF! I KILLED DAVID! :bigcry: :bigcry: :bigcry: :bigcry: :bigcry: :bigcry: :bigcry: :bigcry: :bigcry: :bigcry: :bigcry: :bigcry: :bigcry: :bigcry: :bigcry: :bigcry: :bigcry: :bigcry: :bigcry: :bigcry: :bigcry: :bigcry: :bigcry: :bigcry: :bigcry: So now I have to send it into Marshall's, and my Dad is all ticked off (my friends gathered at my car to see him yell at me), so he's not driving me today... actually, it's not that, it's just because he has a Senior to take picture of, so yeah... and I probably won't get it back 'til... well, past next Monday... which means I have to use the crappy old smelly saxohone! :bigcry: Have any of you guys killed your instrument before? I bashed Clari's head in and lost Bari's. My mom yelled at me so much when I broke my clarinet mouthpiece... it looked like someone took a bite out of it. And I've never found the bari sax's...

Ha, you guys name your instruments. I just name my rifle. Yes, I name my instruments. I think it's perfectly normal. Otherwise, Clari, Bari, and Thor would be very upset. Either way... I think it was last year that our dm (who plays clarinet) broke hers in half somehow and tried to glue it back together. I can at least say I've never been that destructive to Clari.
